I was dusting off the old DSLR and found a bunch of photos from a stop in Tucson, Arizona on a cross-country trip in 2014.

@cbmyles I would not call them ugly fades by any stretch of the imagination. If you do not like the bit of marbling you have on the shins, try soaking the jeans fully submerged in a large sink or tub for one hour before washing (inside out).

@Oaktavia Is that a preventative measure to avoid marbling? I've never encountered marbling before personally, but I'm about to try a hot wash on my XHS with agitation, and I any chances I have to improve my odds, I'm all in.

Yes, this seems to help prevent marbling moreso than not soaking at all. The hour long soak I learned from @Jcaz6996 and @Kasi as I used to only soak for a few minutes. I would still get some marbling until I soaked for the full hour on a timer. Mo told me in person in Gosport that the hour long soak really helps allow the water to soak into the cotton fibers completely. I do not necessary dislike marbling perse, I just wanted to see if I could prevent it through trial and error.

When the jeans are only partially wet and partially dry in some areas during the washing cycle, this is when marbling may occur. At least from my understanding. The areas that are wet do not marble and the areas that are still dry while in the washer (obviously the jeans eventually become soaked) will get the white marbling marks from moving around machine. It could also be where the wet areas meet the dry areas, at the cusp. I think this is what causes it.

@Oaktavia Interesting. Thanks for the explanation. My washer has soak time built into one of the cycles, so I'll give that a shot. I'm going to blast 'em with hot water to get as much shrink as possible.

@seawolf You are welcome, happy to help. Let me know how it goes, you'll get some shrink if you blast them with hot water with lots of agitation.

@Oaktavia That's the plan! I even removed the leather patch (will sew back on later) so it doesn't also get blasted.

@cbmyles good to know. I've never had a problem with my front loader on delicate cycle no spin. And I don't pre-soak. So it seems with a top loader that makes a difference.

Thinking about a pair of these for a change and to embrace a wider leg. I normally wear 777s - has anyone got both sets and could provide any advice about sizing and specifically if I should order some with the same waist size or go up / down one?

I don't see why you will want to go up a size on 634's vs 777. Get a pair that the waist starts just a little snug in the beginning and you will be good to go. They have much wider profile than the 777.

I was just going to order same waist size - although wondered if this made sense as 634 is a medium rise instead of the 777 low rise so the waist will hit different.
