+1 for the Zeiss! Even if it confuses you more. Jacoavlu really knows his stuff…  :o You did mention that you do not necessarily need AF and that would leave you with a lot of $$ and other options to play around with. Maybe even the 50/2 Macro from Zeiss; you do seem to shoot a lot of macro and f2 is good enough for some nice portrait stuff and plenty of bokeh too.

this was shot wide open with a Zeiss 50/1.5 Sonnar on Tri-X 400 pushed to about 1250 developed in Diafine

I'm not sure if the Nikon mount Zeiss 50/1.4 is a Sonnar design or not
the Sonnar are notorious for a nice 3D effect (at least on film) and smooth bokeh
but also by a focus shift which can be annoying
especially when shooting film when you can't see instantly your results

this by contrast was a digital shot with a cheap plastic Nikon 50/1.8 on my cheap D40

        I like both

          the 50L is superb

have you looked at the zeiss 50/1.4?
you could get that and have a lot of fun with it
it's manual focus, and built of metal
and still have $ for a wide like the 28/1.8 or sigma 30/1.4

Actually I didn't even check it out, but I was thinking of a zeiss for a 35. I know you are trying to save me money, but I am going to try the 50 1.2L for now, if I don't like it I still have enough time to return it, and then I would try the wider 35 1.4L. Right now I don't want the money back due to several complications, my mom would get the money then and I don't want her to have it and honestly doing a straight up exchange is easiest for me.

I wouldn't mind it not having AF though, I find myself in manual focus a lot of the time especially for very close-up stuff that the lens tends to focus on the wrong things for. I have time to decide for my next lens though, I think it may be the 100 2.8, but I would have to look into that, I think I will be focusing on macro, city-life (for when I go into NYC), portrait and maybe some other type of photography.

          @Finn666:

          great vid there jacob…

and yeah i think you should go for a 35mm instead of the 50...like jaco said...50mm could be "a bit of an odd length for general purpose/main shooter"...

35 is just perfekt for such things imo... 😉

Thanks for the compliment Rafa  ;D! I will eventually get a 35mm lens (don't know when), but that is after I finish paying off this lens. I know the 50 may be a bit odd but I can make it work. I know a few people who shoot with a 50 (different apertures) on a crop and they love it and it is their main lens. I mean worst comes to worse I don't have a wide enough shot and I have to think of something more creative. But I have been doing my research I went onto a couple of photography forums and saw pictures with the 50 on a 1.6x crop, but when I get it I will have to use it myself as it is the only way to tell if I like it.

Awesome shots! The 50/1.4 is a planar design afaik.

Well. nothing new from me at this point… Tired of my faulty film cameras and looking into digital options, I don't shoot at all at the moment.... All I can do is post older images...

But in general I don't want to post my whole back catalog, it's not that good anyway….... When I get a new cam, I'll add more around here...

The last pic, I kind of went overboard with the Hue/Saturation, but still looks cool.
