Awesome @Giles. What is your sticking point on deadlifts. Sounds like its from the floor to mid shin or knee. Make sure you keep pushing your legs into the floor constantly through the lift. Do not even think about your back. Think legs pushing down into the floor.

Sorry to be hogging this thread, but the mere fact of documenting what I am doing is added inspiration to try harder.
2 weeks ago, my PB for leg press was 12 reps at 173kg. 10 days ago, I failed at 183.
Today, I did 213kg and felt I could go further.
I am frankly amazed.....

@Giles and I have been motivating each other for the past few months in preparation for tuna fishing in the fall. He sends me updates on new exercises that he's trying which I try and incorporate from time to time. The progress has been good and a nice change from some of my normal goto lifts. Yesterday I added Bulgarian squats for the first time...
I don't know if I should thank him or kick his arse the next time I see him...

I have always loved natural weight training. In my 20s I let my weight get away from me and got to about 20 stone.

Sorted myself out and in my 30s got in pretty decent shape.

In my late 40s now but still in good shape and lifting heavy. Really just focused on functional strength now and overall health.

You can’t beat having stuff at home to work out.

Picked this plate set up for a steal from eBay a couple of days ago. Well pleased....
Two kinds of plates can move you beyond the 634 to the 684S-16-GER.
You are on the better path @Giles

Nice! Looks like a complete set also. Now get a nice bar, if you are going to spend money spend it on the bar. A good bar vs a shitty bar have a day and night difference.

@Giles I have similar weights, I remember during covid I was going to build a "home gym" and the prices were insane... I ended up just buying dumbbells and a bench, got weights like yours the next year for a lot cheaper...
I guess this could be in "rants" as it still pisses me off people taking advantage of covid lol

@Giles. I have no experience with Mirafit. Do you know if its a bushings or bearings bar? If you want smooth fast rotation bearings are superior. If you dont aspire to do any of the fast lifts like clean power clean snatch or variations that require smooth, fast and precise turnover bushings are ok.
-
I don't know if they are bearings or bushings, they have not arrived yet (and until you asked the question, I had no idea there were 2 different kinds
) . I suspect bushings, because the Mirafit ones I can find with bearings cost quite a lot more. But, for the time being, I will be restricting myself to deadlifts, Romanian deadlifst, barbell curls, pelvic thrusts and the like, none of which I will be doing fast or clean

I think you might be selling yourself short on the pelvic thrusts…

Mirafit are good quality for the money. All my bars are Rogue but I have quite a few other bits from Mirafit including dumbbells.
