Hats off to McLaren for a good strategy, the stewards for a good call, and Lando for the WDC.

I may be dull, but what is the difference between “boost” and “overtake” on the 2026 regs? I can’t find a definitive answer

Overtake mode: Replaces the current DRS overtaking aid. A burst of extra electrical energy available when drivers are within a second of the car in front to deploy power to assist with an overtake.

Boost mode: Driver-operated energy deployment from the energy recovery system that can be used in attack or defence. Gives the driver maximum power from the engine and battery at the push of a button.

Both these modes will have to be used with calculation as total energy is limited.

          From here (does that help?):

@WhiskeySandwich Sounds like “overtake mode” is like a “boost mode” with a little more power.

I read it as, boost is more powerful, as it takes energy from engines as well as the battery.....

@Giles So a battery boost with a kick in the pants from the engine? Im interested in the non-aerodynamic aspect of this rule change. I am excited to see these new cars chasing each other down!

                  I think so.

I'm looking forwards to seeing what the new rules do to the racing and the relative positions of the teams.

Me too. I'm guessing the first half of the season will be all over the place, while the teams bed down the cars.

Looks like there will not be a season launch like they did at the O2 London last year. Shame - it was great to see an arena boo Horner 😁

Boost and Overtake still seem like a weird combination to me. A bit redundant to have a 1-second rule for usage when you already have a push-for-power button. I was hoping the 1-second rule was gone with DRS. I like the idea of full-time active aero with the same 'boost' feature they've carried over, only with more power, but I figured that would serve as the Overtake assist. It's going to be one of those weird things that is hard to track as a viewer unless they have that on-screen graphic showing battery power. I just want to see tight racing without all the mario-kart power ups. At least there should be less dirty air to help that.

I've seen a lot of buzz around compression ratios. I'm skeptical that'll be the end-all-be-all for team dominance, especially if it reduces PU longevity as a result. I am excited to see how the teams stack up, and how the cars differ, as well as the evolution in racecraft. I'm sure there will be a clear leader from the beginning, but by mid season I think it could tighten up.
