I’m looking for some help narrowing down my size for one of the oiled deck jackets…
I’m in my mid-50s, 6 feet tall, 220 pounds (182cm and 100 kg), chest measures about 47 inches (120 cm), shoulders 20.5 inches (52 cm). I’ve just lost about 50 pounds so I’m still getting used to the new me, as it were. Chest used to be pushing 50 with a solid belly.
I wear a 48R Barbour Bedale (measures 28 inches pit-to-pit) and I can layer reasonably in that. It used to be a bit snug with a medium weight sweater before dropping the weight.
The Bedale’s 28 inches is 2 more than the N-1’s SP-L/XXXXL at 26.1 inches. However, I get the sense from some people’s posts and other reviews online that I would probably be more like an XXL or XXXL in the N-1
This all leaves me with no idea what size I should be looking at in the N-1… I definitely want to have room to layer a medium weight flannel or even a thicker sweater with the jacket.
Help?

@tfldad you could start in this thread, to see which crew member might match your measurements, to get an idea:

also, please get in touch with the crew at shop@ironheart.co.uk for solid size advice.i'm taller than you, so i could only give you an educated guess...

Get whatever size you’re typically wearing now in US brands. This jacket fits TTS.
-
@JerkStore Really??? I have everything from Medium in North Face to XL in Ironheart. Hell, even in Ironheart I go back and forth between Large and XL…
-
For THIS jacket. I go between large and XL too in iron heart. But for THIS JACKET, it’s always been TTS for me.
-
@JerkStore thanks for the help. Unfortunately, with my recent weight loss I don’t know my typical size yet. I’ve only recently started replacing pieces of the wardrobe.

That, I am afraid is really bad advice. It may have worked for you, and I am glad that it did, but there is virtually nothing (including this) that we make in a size that looks anything like US sizing. I am typically an M in for instance RRL, I am always a L or XL in Iron Heart.
I know a little bit about what I am talking about because I was instrumental in deciding how we would size our clothing. I hated the vanity sizing of US brands, so I asked Haraki to unvanity size what we make, and gave him the specs.

What size do you wear in this jacket
-
I'd pick XXXL with this and I am usually an US XL in other brands jackets. Always refer to the size chart...
edit: 100kg and 190cm tall with wide shoulders. Even SP-large could work for me if I would play it safe for heavy layering.

@tody thanks for suggesting the staff vitals… I reviewed the the team members in this thread but there isn’t a real clean match with my build so still a little apprehensive. I do think the SP-L/XXXXL is probably too big but not sure beyond that.
Engage with the guys in support, either through email (shop@ironheart.co.uk) or the chat function. They do this multiple times a day, it is what they do. No one has more knowledge than them...

https://forum.ironheart.co.uk/topic/5664/video-how-measure-to-jackets-the-iron-heart-method
…and to add: Please watch this video on how IHUK measures and measure your best fitting top (jacket, shirt, etc.) and use it to get some baseline measurements for the staff to use.
Once the new jackets come in, they will measure them and publish a sizing chart for this year’s release. Between your measurements (done the way the video indicates), and the measurements of the F/W 25 release should get you a near perfect jacket.
It helps the guys tremendously when you have those baseline measurements to work with.
