I was born in 1980 in the GDR (German Democratic Republic) and was nine years old when the Berlin Wall fell.
Even as a child, you weren't safe from the Stasi.

The Stasi was a secret police force in the GDR that monitored citizens like a secret police force. It spied on people to find out who was against the government and tried to force them to work for it. If people were identified as opponents of the government, they could be arrested and interrogated.
