Why is there not a golf thread yet?
I’m sure there’s many of you that play. Or try to, like me…

Let this be a space where we talk all things golf!
Gear, courses, trips, the Pros, what you’re wearing on the course, handicaps, major tournaments, PGA vs LIV, YouTube golf, etc… Happy Gilmore 2!!!

I played a round with Amos this morning. Owner of GPWW. Here’s a view from one of the tees at Heron Lakes

@Brock I was wondering this myself over the weekend after the Masters. I’m a hack but I love to play when I have time. These days it’s only a few times a year but hopefully more in the future. I used to play every week before kids but you all know how that goes.

@SKT …get your kids into it (depending on age). Both of mine are playing, the oldest one (14) helps teach, and works part time at the local course.

Also gives me an excuse to hit a hole or two 🙂

Our local course has a SNAG (starting new at golf) program and has classes designed to teach kids how to play the game. It typically runs for 6-8 weeks (once a week) and teaches the fundamentals of the game mixed with activities to make it fun for everyone. On really hot days the owner/instructor takes water balloons out to the driving range for the kids to practice their swing. Other days they take marshmallows out to see who has the longest drive. 😂

It’s great for everyone and my oldest now plays on house leagues in tournaments.

@goosehd sounds like an ideal way to get them playing. I’ve tried a couple times with mine and the interest is just not there. I get it though because I didn’t start playing until my 20’s. I’ll keep after it with hopes they play down the road

              @Brock Wow great view!

I grew up on a golf course! My backyard was on the 14th green of the golf course in our neighborhood. I used to hop the fence and go shoot around at the end of the day. I’d collect golf balls in the bushes and sell them back to golfers at the tee box (3 for $1, .50 cents each for Taylor Made or Nike ProV1)
I hardly play anymore because I don’t have the time (or clubs of my own). I love disc golf too! But again, I don’t have the free time right now.

Did anybody watch the Masters? I try to watch as much as I can on Sundays every year. I’m happy to see Rory McIlroy win his green jacket, finally! It seems like every year he is in contention for a win at some point. What a nail biter!

I started playing again last year, after a 15-ish year hiatus. New irons purchased, and just recently had my first lesson in about 25 years. I played last Friday (9-holes) and Saturday (18-holes) - would be an insult to my professional if I didn’t practice, right!?

@Danimal506 dude Sunday at the masters was insane!! I watched Rory’s whole round and was soo stressed out/excited for him! Even teared up after his birdie putt in the playoff hole when he hit the ground. What a relief that must have been after trying so hard for 11 years!

@Brock The whole ceremony was emotional. It’s what makes the Masters so great!

I was listening to Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast and a couple of them went to this years Masters. Very funny stories about their experience on Sunday.

Missouri has some great courses but this one is probably my favorite…the Pine Ridge Golf Course and Country Club in Belle, MO. Town of 1200 or so people and hole #1 is walking distance from our farm. Green fees are tolerable…and on your honor.

@dinobarnesberlin true. This particular situation is pretty relaxed. If the course needs money for maintenance or improvements the local guys, mostly farmers, just basically pitch in to get it done. 9-hole course with undulating greens about the size of a trampoline…makes for some challenging (and stressful) shots!

@SKT sounds like a good system there. Love it when the locals take care of their own.

Is it a par three course or regulation?

@dinobarnesberlin it’s actually regulation with one par 5…which can feel like playing in a cow pasture. Lots of fun though

It was cool to see two first time tour winners at the Zurich classic yesterday.
Happy for them but would have loved to see Shane and Rory win another one..
