@bluemantra, the closest thing I have to a 777 will be my 25oz pronto double indigo. It's a Pronto cut but based on the 777. They are tag 40 and still slightly tight on the thigh. Needless to say I need a belt for the waist. The good thing is that the lower rise is more forgiving when the waist is big. To put it in perspective I can wear tag 36 in both 888's and 634. So in my case I have to go 2 tag sizes up to fit a 777 cut.

@yannis Thank you. that is helpful. My 777 is a tag 33 with a 34" waist and the thigh is a little snug which I think prevents the pants from dropping too much. The 888 I'm looking at is a tag 32 and has a 33" waist. My tag 32 666 have been a bit snug in the top block with a 33" waist. I just don't want the 888 to be falling off. Here's some photo's of my 777. Would this be too much room in an 888?

If I was you I would size the 888 to be snug in the waist. Snug like to be a little difficult to button the top button when new. With the 888 cut you don't have to worry about the thigh. It's roomier than both 777 and 666. Just get the waist right and the rest will fall into place. You definitely do not want the waist loose on the 888. Also remember the rise on the 888 is higher so it will sit closer to your natural waist and not hips. You may even able to go tag 31 on the 888's. Tag 32 will definitely fit you just not sure how you want them to fit.

Hi. Sorry to ruin the 888 posts in the 888 post. But I am thinking this is the next pair I want to invest in. Question on waist stretch...on my 14s and 21s I've gotten around 2 inches of stretch in the waist; how much stretch beyond the listed waist can you get in these? (I got a belly working against me and leading to waist stretch, but like my pants snug and never had 888/high rise). I want something that ends around 42" in the waist after maximum stretch

I will really second this advice on sizing snug at the waist, especially since the thigh / knee areas are roomy by design. Like Yannis I had to lay down the first time but now it has relaxed and fits golden.

@wjw There is not an exact science to it and everyone will experience slightly different levels of stretch unique to their body type and wear. 25oz will stretch out less than 14oz and 21oz, though. The denim is unwashed and once washed, you will experience some shrinkage - approximately one inch in the waist (the inseam will also shrink about an inch and all other dimensions in proportion to this). The waist will stretch back out to approximately what you started with, and potentially a little more when they soften and under continued wear. I would look to size so that they are comfortable out of the bag, this will give some room to deal with the initial shrinkage.

@wjw I have mine on the pant stretcher right now. I'll measure when I get home and report back the max stretch I've gotten from the listed measurement (waist 35). I will say that 888XHS has been the hardest denim for me to get to wear comfortable. When I'm trending down in weight They fit comfortable, but with holiday lbs I have issues with discomfort, especially when sitting for long periods.

Adam said it right. Size them so they fit great out of the bag and and deal with the extra stretch. It's a much better route to go with the high rise than fighting for stretch.

                              These stretched from 35” to 36.5” almost 37”. IMG_3266.jpeg

@wjw I don't take recommended steps when i get new denim. I just wear them and get on with it. So no initial soak. These are size 35, and i believe the measured 34.8 when i received them. I always wash inside out, warm and hang dry. sometimes i put them in the tumble dryer for 10 minutes on low temp just to move things along but not induce shrinkage.

First 888 cut. First experience with XHS. First wear, after the first soak.

Need them to stretch just a touch in the waist, and also get them hemmed. But pretty pleased with how they turned out for "flying blind" with these.

(I guess not totally blind, I did read this thread several times to help give myself the best shot at sizing. So thanks to all who have contributed to this thread...you have helped me, and many more I'm sure, figure out sizing and how to handle these bad boys)
