@SKT right on! Mines the thin skin too. I feel like those AVRIs, especially the thin nitro Wildwood spec ones, are some of the best deals going. I had a Custom Shop strat that I eventually ended up selling, and I feel like the Wildwood is just as good or even better than plenty of Custom Shops, especially in terms of consistency. My only gripe about mine is that I wish it had a light relic. Also wish it didn’t have neck binding, but it’s no biggie.

I actually prefer the 2105s. Vintage frets don’t bother me, but if I had the choice I’d go for the narrow/tall.

No real preference on pickguards, other than the fact that I’m a dork about wanting it to be period correct (unless it’s a guitar that just threw all that out the window and just is what it is). I have a 71 blonde tele that’s sort of a mongrel, has had tons of stuff replaced. It came with a blackguard style on it and it sorta drove me crazy not having the right 70s one. I put a black 8-hole / 3 ply on there and even that still sorta drove me nuts, felt like I was trying to pull off an older guitar or something haha. So now I have a white one on it, and I guess all is well. Like I said, dork.

Mine is just stock out of the box fender.

I do have some custom relicd pickgaurd screws though due to hours of nasty sweaty hands

@GraemeE haha I feel like I brought up my two most modified guitars. I usually have a tendency to just buy a guitar that I’m as close to 100% happy with and just leave it alone. Sometimes I’ll tweak though if there’s a need, or if the guitar’s already been messed with plenty, like my old tele.

I do love properly “reliced” guitars and have pined for a long time for a Whitfill custom T. He makes great looking and sounding (from what I’ve seen and read) guitars

                http://www.whitfillcustomguitars.com/guitars.html

I haven’t purchased a new guitar in almost 10 years now. Seems impossible

Also, the 10 year gap almost coincides with having kids…hmm. Correlation or causation?

If anybody has any leads on luthiers that do a good job on relic stuff, I'm all ears. My Senn is the best I've owned, and I've asked Jeff if he'd do a relic job on another guitar, but didn't hear back (which I took as a no). Some of them are too extreme — I like the sort of Closet Classic / Journeyman level of distress. It's just nice to have a guitar that's sorta had the new knocked off of it. Definitely not the sort of thing I'm willing to do myself (and by that I mean relic it myself, not play the shit out of it until it looks old and vintage. Anybody who's had a new finish guitar knows that will take eons).

@skt I know a guy who's got a Whitfill — he likes it, cool tele. K-Line is also pretty fantastic. I have one of his strats and it's probably my best sounding and playing single coil electric.

@popvulture K-line is new to me and just looked them up…St Louis! They look really nice and I’ll have to dig into them. I agree the “closet classic” look is the sweet spot for me too. I have a 50th Anniversary Masterbuilt strat (Todd Krause) that has that look. I’ll get some pics of it and throw them in the mix here when I can.

@jeffgrantMEDIA yeah she’s a dandy. If you’re into slope shoulder dreads, I’ll have to post some stuff on the 1938 J35 and the 1934 Jumbo. To be clear, I don’t currently own all these guitars. I do a lot of catch and release 🎣

                                Right now I’ve got the ‘34 Jumbo, the ‘34 L00, and a sweet 1913 Gibson A4 mandolin

@chillmonroe I am going to have to follow your IG. I just scrolled it. I love vintage Gibsons. Wish I had the cash to play that game. I mostly just noodle these days and have halted my guitar-buying addiction. As far as vintage I only currently own a Gibson 78' Deluxe and a 76' Strat. But mostly just play my Taylor. It's a 2004, but the best-sounding guitar I played in a LONG search. The only thing I played better was that vintage J45 at a guitar center in Philly 20 years ago.

Just repaired a crack in the back of my 1934 Jumbo. First time ever attempting something like this.

Got some guidance from my luthier buddy. Humidified it to close it up a bit for a couple weeks, then pushed on it to open it up just ever so slightly. Injected it with a super specific type of super glue, waited like 10 seconds and went at it with some shell wool followed by a buffing cloth.

Here’s the before and after pics. I knew it was there and I still can’t find it in the after. The pucker factor in this was real and I’m super stoked on the result 🤌🤌
