Worthing to Eastbourne. Yeah conditions were good.
I wasn't sure if I could finish going into this race because training hadn't gone to plan due to ankle injuries. I did two back to back 2o mile runs last weekend though, so finishing them meant I could go give it a try. As for race strategy, was hoping for 9 hours when my original pre-injury goal was 8. I think I executed the race pretty well, was consistent with nutrition of tailwind and gu gels. Had energy for the whole race. The thing that slowed me down was foot and leg pain, just from not having spent enough time on my feet in training. So that is the thing to change for next time. Tired and satisfied now and sore.

@Dmart nice, I’d read a race report when you have a chance. First event on the speedmax? You ready for the 70.3? Maybe we should move this over to triathlon…

I managed to keep running through the winter months and am thoroughly enjoying the spring weather. The last few days I’ve logged about 40 km’s with every day being just a little better than the last. Temps are still in the high 40’s, low 50’s, but so much nicer than 10-20 degrees. For me it is just about perfect running conditions with the goldilocks of temperatures and extremely low humidity.

The great thing about continuing to train during the winter is that I don’t feel like I’m starting over. Hoping for a great summer and looking at some races this year. Loved the trail run in the fall with the family and hoping to do a few more with a road race or two. Distances to be determined. 🙂

Hoping you guys are off to a great start and look forward to everyone’s stories and progress.

Way to go! Yes the temps around 50 are perfect for running.
You mentioned the greatest benefit of running through winter, running in spring is easier. Looking forward to your race selections!

My summer goal is to finally get to the “high” range of the VO2 Max on the Apple Health App. I’m going to start running once I get back home. I think I’ll be a lot better at heat tolerance after my trip. It’s going to be difficult. I’m going to hate it. I’m also going to do it because I’ve always wanted to achieve this goal. Plus I think the cardio benefits will out weigh the difficult start.

If any dedicated runners remember…. How long did it take to start seeing the cardio benefits from running? I’m expecting like 3-6 months or so. Is that a realistic expectation. Coming from a weightlifter and yoga poser.

I would say you will benefit from newbie gains and will see first results fast. VO2max will require some greater efforts every now and then. For longevity, VO2mX is one of the most important markers

Just got back into running and am doing a half marathon in Oct. Currently out four or five times a week training.

Looking for a watch which allows me to track runs, distance, etc.

                                    Any ideas?

@Crispy-Heron I run using the Apple Watch as that is the family of products that I use the most. I went with it as I can use it as a phone if/when needed.

I look at the Garmin platform and want to try it, but hear that it doesn’t work well at communicating with Apple (shared data: running workouts, VO2 max, etc.).

@Crispy-Heron Depends a bit on budget and needs.
The newer watches all come now with AMOLED displays while the older ones still use MIP.
If you just want a pure running watch the forerunner 165 does the job. The 265 is quite a step up and supports multi sports etc. if you want to add mapping because you go hiking frequently you may want to look at the 965.
If you want a bit more robustness Fenix/Epix pro gen 2 are you best bets.
If you don’t want Garmin but an excellent watch for running, have a look at the Coros Pace 3.
