@CPA hard to say without a direct comparison but I guess it will mostly be down to the lining (as I have no trouble walking in my 720 whipcord pants). The N1 lining is quite bulky (in a good way). In terms of which A2, I preferred the serge colour and it was more different to other stuff I have.

I’ve now had a chance to try it on and I think sizing down works. Still I’d appreciate honest opinions.

Plus, I thought this might be helpful - M A2 over L N1. The A2 is a smidge wider in the body and shorter in the body and arms.

Is A2 significantly less warm than non-oiled N1?
I have N1 but the sizing isn't perfect for me - I love the warmth though! A2 dimensions seem closer to what would work but my only worry is that it will be noticeably less warm (alpaca neck missing is also a worry :))

@init616 I’ve only tried mine on indoors but I don’t have any reason to doubt the A2’s warmth. The IHM-40 has been out slightly longer so maybe worth asking on that thread too.

IMO perfect. I would/will buy it sizing the same. Think it's a good addition to the N1. While the latter with its warm collar and wider measures is more for layering on really cold days, this one just with a tee or a light shirt for cool spring/autumn days. Excellent choice @ARNC

Sized down from XXL in Flannels to XL.. still a lot of room for layers.

@Tobi looks like this should work well for you if you’re planning on layering under it and it really is a fantastic jacket (spent far too long looking at mine hung over a chair last night 😃 )

I think there’s a bit of a trade off between length and width on this one and we all have different preferences/intentions. I think we jumped in different directions but both got a good result.

@ARNC and @tody I see now what you guys mean.. The arms are seriously wide (high up), never had this issue with an IH top. Oh well, I could go down even further to L (I am normally XXL in IH Flannels, although sometimes a XL would work), but then the length would be borderline too short.. and not much space for thicker layers. Hate sending back stuff (avoided it so far with IH), so not sure what to do...

I'd say the fit on your body is good, but the arms are long. Depends on how you want to wear it. You could get the arms altered, then it seems perfect for some layering. Or size down for only thin layers under it. Anyway, it's a beaut and suits you very well.

With this being the Serge version, would the creases in the armpits be more pronounced than on the whipcord version? That probably would shorten the sleeves a little in the long run.

@Tobi I get the impression you’re generally more tolerant of looser fits than I am. Sleeve volume and excess material around my lower body were a big factor in my sizing down – for me the difference in length between the two sizes was less significant. If you’re more sensitive to length, maybe keep it.

I suspect the arms will settle down a bit and I’m not sure how many layers you’re wearing in the pics, but with thicker layers underneath I think you’re good (maybe not with just a tee). The arm opening seems to be cut a bit lower/wider than in other IH tops, and I think that’s a bit factor in the upper arm volume.

Sorry if I’ve gone on too long – hope this helps you and maybe others debating sizing (this was definitely the hardest time I’ve had making sense of the numbers).

Thanks - will think it over today. The sleeve length is not a problem for me, but more the width/volume of the arm. I guess this is close to the military original cuts, seen this otherwise only on authentic M65 Jackets...
