This thing seems like it'll end up with high-contrast fades no matter how much I wash. I think its going to happen on it's own. I like this soapy-soak-followed-by-a-rinse routine to keep it fresh, so I'm going to keep doing that when needed. I probably won't keep pushing it until I smell like a deep fryer anymore though.

@WhiskeySandwich Mate coming along nicely! I've been afraid to wash mine as I'm scared of losing those high contrast fades in the the sleeves. I'm also two weeks behind you. It looks like the wash has really brought out the white in the fades though... terrific.

@Mr-Linz man, anything and everything, but I don’t suffer through the heat if it’s too bad. I just keep it on and go about my day. I work indoors but move around a lot. I wear it for yard work a lot and working on bikes - riding motorcycles etc. I just make it a point to keep it on nonstop unless it becomes restrictive or uncomfortable. If it’s funky I soak or wash, depending on severity. Wabi-sabi = oh well, fuck it. Lol

@WhiskeySandwich Yeah I'm basically wearing it until I sleep everyday. Never committed so hard to a shirt ever. Is your's softening up? I've found in the last week that mine feels like it's eased a lot.

@Mr-Linz That's the trick. Same here on committing to a shirt - I def treat it more like a jacket though, so it's easier to get away with wearing it daily. It is softening up a bit. I think it's going to keep that dense structure forever but it's 'temper' has changed. It's very soft and smooth now, and collapses more easily. Of course when I wash it and it dries, it can stand up every time, but a quick shake and wear once its dry and it remembers to relax.
Even once relaxed, it remembers my creases perfectly. When I machine washed it, I hung it to dry, then once COMPLETELY DRY, I turned it back inside out and threw it in the dryer on air fluff for a few minutes (no heat), just to loosen it up. It feels almost like Nubuck or something, with it's very fine velvetiness. It's also pretty shiny. I love when denim gets to that point where you brush it one way and see white fuzz, then brush it the other and it hides it.
I think a while back I posted that I'd like pants in this material, but I'm now thinking it's best in this form. Wearing something this dense and unbreathable might cause swampass, but it's fantastic for a jacket. I would totally get a Type III in this.
Sorry for turning this into a whole rant, sometimes I do that lol.

@WhiskeySandwich Ahhh yes that rings true. I have an OD CPO and it's much more relaxed and I was thinking maybe it this guy might become like that... But it stands to reason that this will remain a bit of a tough mother, especially as other used SBG shirts I've brought have maintained some rigidity.

I wear mine as a shaket just over a t-shirt. In Los Angeles another layer would be too much. Luckily it's cooling off a little now.

Here's another question, after washing have you needed to reset the creases in the shirt? I kinda assumed I'd need to wear it when wet to help set the creases again before allowing it to dry. Have you been able to avoid that? Or is it a necessary stage?

@Mr-Linz Yeah, i think it'll stay pretty tough, but it's very wearable as-is.

I feel like I'm always making adjustments to the way I handle my raw denim game, but it generally goes like this:
Do a dry fit on a new product to make sure the measurements work. Once I accept the fit and commit to the item, I give it a room temp soak for about 30 mins, roll it in a towel, then hang it to dry and smooth out any creases. After about an hour I put it on damp and wear it for like 15 minutes around the house, then I hang it to dry completely. The creases I made while damp stay forever, so long as I wear it as long as possible before soaking/washing, usually a month minimum. After that, I soak/wash whenever needed and hang to fully dry. When you shake the fabric back loose again, the old creases mostly stay in the fabrics 'memory'.

@WhiskeySandwich Copy that. I followed your/this method with the shirt so far, just wondered if they needed resetting when wet? But now reading this, it's just occurred to me that I could potentially mess up my creases by wearing it wet or shift them a little. I'll follow this guide and shake them back to life when dry. (although still holding out before the first wash)

Really appreciate the time you've taken to answer mate! 🙂

Or, since I see it every day, I don't see the changes happening in a drastic way. Either way, it's just getting started, this will still evolve a lot, I'm sure of it!

@WhiskeySandwich agreed mate, it definitely photographs well for sure.

I will say this is by far my favorite shirt! It's fit is amazing and now of course if completely molds to me. 10/10

This might seem odd, but my plan is keep wearing it around the clock into the new year, but when it's starts looking really lovely, (I'm thinking Jan/Feb base on other SBG's in the redline comp) I'm going to pull back and enjoy it over a much longer period of time. The only downside with wearing such a lovely shirt around the clock is, you don't get that feeling of I'm going with that look today lol, cause it's the same as the day before.
