@tody it gets better. My first wear left me with a very painful right shoulder but it must’ve molded. No issues on the last 3 carries.

I regret not getting a GRXC2, I could do with a new bag.

For those who did, High Above are offering packing cubes in Dyneema denim, which would be the perfect pairing. Unfortunately, they only have one medium left in stock.

@Graeme I don't have the rucksack but do have a medium field bag and love it. I often use it for around town errands (on and off the motorcycle) and traveling. I've had it for 4/5 years now and it's holding up well to the abuse.

              Maybe @Anesthetist has one?

I tried it earlier and it appeared to work, but I haven't put in an order. 🙂

                    @goosehd and @Mizmazzle thanks.

@goosehd I did own one a long time ago. My first bag developed a leather split across one of the buckles after 3 weeks so it went back. The second was fine but aesthetically it wasnt working for me so I sold it. From what I remember it jostled around a lot and didnt sit flat against my back.

I have a probably unfair prejudice against Filson.

Speaking of sitting against the back, the Rofmia Daypack is interesting there. The bottom isn’t flat so you can’t stand it up when not using or to slot stuff in and out. It is clamshell which is great for loading it. I have a HeroClip to hang the bag so not a big deal.

But the reason I think they did that is the interesting part. It shifts the cargo up and makes the bag really conform to your back in a very pleasant way. I think that’s why it doesn’t need load lifters. Also minimizes the profile for situations like when you’re on a crowded train as I was this week.

I love little thoughtful details like that.

                          Think it, be it.

I've heard that the Filson rucksacks don't sit particularly flat against the back, but the design has been changed. They've increased its height by an inch and a half, and moved the straps up by what looks like a similar amount.

                            Filson Rucksacks Compared

A review I read said that the low strap position on the original was the cause. If that's changed, the new version should be better.

Then again, it's not going to be as good as a proper pack. I tried on a Fjallraven Lappland Hike 15, and it sat so nicely on my back. Unfortunately, it's a bit small for what I need. Sounds like @mclaincausey is having a similar experience with his Rofmia.

Sorry, I meant that the Fjallraven carries well, and that the Rofima does too. Not that @mclaincausey finds it too small!

I got in touch with Mathias Steinhauser, who made the deerskin rucksack I like.

                                    Steinhauser Bespoke Rucksack

This was roughly the same size and weight as the larger GXCR2. (50 x 40 x 15 cm, 1.5 kg.) The cost is €1500, and he currently quotes about a five-month delivery time.

                                    I'm tempted...

(Court hearing went well, too. Trademark dispute, with a value of a mere half million euros. Other side got basically thrown out.)
