Talking about oils, I’ve just had a golden shower from my brake reservoir. Good way to tell you it’s leaking

@tody I’ll be going DOT5 when I fix and flush the system. But guessing if the previous owner followed the manual, it would be DOT4

@louisbosco So, glycol based. Google search on how to remove glycol stains from leather comes up pretty empty. I have no idea what would be involved in cleaning this...

I might be bugged by it too if it were me but I really think it looks fantastic. If you want the shirt without splatters you could brush down the whole thing in brake fluid.

@Nik @tody hahahahah I’m keen to just give it my regular oiling to see if it’ll even things out. If not I’ll just cop it, part and parcel of the evolution of the shirt

Corrected the waviness in the placket.
                          Corrected the waist flare.
Leather is still stiff, but not as when new.
Fits like it did after first soak. Elbow creases and collar shape were retained.
Now it’s time to just wear the hell out of it.

@goosehd thanks for asking, no I didn't. I randomly opened the reservoir to check and found it was empty. so I topped it up to check where the leak was. turns out it's the cap as the seals were wonky..

I can imagine that at some point in the future, the color will darken and match the color of the oil splatters. But they will most likely always be visible. If it ever starts bothering you a lot, try using saddle soap one or two times and see if you can get some of it out at least. Make sure to condition and/or oil (not with your motorbike this time) to prevent the shirt from drying. As said, I'm not optimistic about the splatters coming off entirely, but it's worth a try and could at least lighten up the darker spots, which then, over time and more use could blend in with the patina of the shirt. Of course, there is always the option of dying the shirt in brown/black or more brake fluid as @Nik suggested. FWIW; your shirt does look nice and unique this way too!

I actually think it’s pretty cool too. This sort of thing usually bugs me big time and if the shirt were new I’d say wtf were you thinking but if this is your riding shirt then it’s not bad at all.

Single treatment of Saphir Revovateur on my shirt, which turned it a honey/golden tan colour. It was difficult to get an even coat and is a little streaky upon examination up close. I may do another coat, but I’m happy with the colour and am going to live with it for a bit.
