Here is some perspective
I make this observation without an underlying agenda, it is purely to provide an objective source of information. You can literally watch the rate of growth in population and compare that against deaths in real time. I find it fascinating.

I certainly don't think it's fair to blame a government for a lack of supplies. Those lack of stockpiles are the consequences of multiple governments. You can't expect prez XYZ to come into power and immediately ask about the strategic mask reserve.
On the other hand, we can hold our governments responsible for being late in responding, lying to their citizens, or sending mixed messages.

When President Trump took office in 2017, the White House’s National Security Council Directorate for Global Health Security and Biodefense survived the transition intact. Its mission was the same as when I was asked to lead the office, established after the Ebola epidemic of 2014: to do everything possible within the vast powers and resources of the U.S. government to prepare for the next disease outbreak and prevent it from becoming an epidemic or pandemic.
One year later, I was mystified when the White House dissolved the office, leaving the country less prepared for pandemics like covid-19.
The U.S. government’s slow and inadequate response to the new coronavirus underscores the need for organized, accountable leadership to prepare for and respond to pandemic threatsI don’t expect one leader to know everything. I do expect them to be smart enough to set good priorities and hire the best help possible.

Kind of a trip being out and about today. It’s nice out so of course there’s tons of people exercising, walking their dogs or just going for a stroll. Contrast that with a cloudy day and it’s this weird dystopian emptiness in the streets, kinda like the opening scene of 28 Days Later [emoji3446]

First strikes in supermarkets have broken out… I was waiting for that... Give us some financial bonuses so I can spend it all on beer and Iron Heart whilst I 'll be on paid vacation next week and don't lose one € cause our work is essential (it's essentially bullshit but hey)...
It's a selfish train of thoughts, but zero fucks are given...

As a side note, I'm listening to a French news report which discusses the number of phone subscriptions that have been cancelled in China in the last 5 months or so:
- 21M cancelled cell phone subscriptions in the last 5 months,
- 8M for China Mobile,
- 5M for China Telecom
- ~2M for China Unicom - 840,000 fixed lines cancelled since December
(Officially: 3,305 deaths…)

I’m far from a front line worker, but I do work in healthcare. I’m a software product manager for radiology and pathology software. I was in a call today with an ED physician. He’s in Oregon, but is from NYC and has a lot of colleagues and family there.
It was wild to me to hear that nearly 100% of patients are testing positive. Injuries from skateboarding, car accidents, heart attacks it doesn’t matter.
