Coronavirus (Covid-19) Discussion

I'm not generalising. Health and social care research shows it as an issue. The more time rich you are, and disposable income you have, the more likely you are to cook for fun.
If you are time and cash poor, you are more likely to depend on quick and cheap ready meals.
This is something that fascinates me. A few weeks ago I asked about 8 colleagues at work whether they can cook (all aged from 21 to 30). Most laughed, and only one said she and her boyfriend cook. Others said they buy take out or convenience food.
I appreciate the way most of us buy food has changed, and people rely on convenience more, but there is a difference between choosing not to cook and not being able to cook.

Many of them have been foodies for most of their lives. A lot of them learned to cook at an early age.
foodies ≠ being able to cook.
many can be a foodie because they pay to go to nice cafes and restaurants and enjoy the food. but they may not be able to whip up a simple meal.

^ True. A majority of beer snobs don't have any clue how to make a decent beer.

Correlation not causation. Does not have to be an absolute.

That’s funny, my buddy was talking about dusting off his home brewing system because of the shelter in place.
He said he would bring beer if I’d defend his house from looters.
I don’t drink….

On the other hand, my gen x and boomer colleugues who have been lying about their ability to use digital and e-learning techniques and platforms in their teaching for the last 10 years are now having to sort their shit out [emoji1]
What do you do for a living? I work in the training realm too and we’re moving towards synchronous online training for the next few months. I’m pretty sure we’re going to use adobe connect as our main modality
I might need to talk shop with you “offline” for tips

A worthwhile read if you want a starting point for being on your own:
I think covid19 is a timely wake up call for anyone that thinks it's acceptable to be incompetent at feeding/sheltering/defending their family.
If you look for "Basic Dude Stuff" on Youtube by Pat Mac it's a worthwhile way to spend a few minutes. I think he's got four of them, and he tries to be funny about it.
I don't have any desire to shoot people in the face, but I sure as shit have the ability and capacity to leave nothing but a smoldering crater if you try to take the food I've reserved for my granddaughter. I'll be damned if she misses a single meal because I wasn't capable.
And not talking shit like "I'll beat someone to death with a baseball bat" when they haven't even hit a baseball in 20 years, I mean they're going to need to repave the road outside by the time I'm satisfied.

Went to two different Aldi stores and both had decent stock, except sanitizer. The first had a line outside and the tp aisle was cleared out pretty fast. The second Aldi had two full pallets of bog roll and I didn’t see customers hoarding stuff.
The free market is a good thing imo and will respond accordingly.

Man am I glad to not live in the country you are living.

Our parents and grandparents didn't survive global conflict because they turned away from each other, they survived because they turned towards each other.

It’s funny how in The Walking Dead they never ran into a bog roll issue. I’m assuming they just shat in the woods and used leaves [emoji848] makes you wonder what people used before tp was invented

My wife and I are both key workers with strategic and operational responsibilities. This will be tough on our 5 year old.

The thing is, the markets will calm. Things are just crazy now because of what people are reading/seeing in the news and they think that they won’t get arse wipe again. Rest assured, these items will fill the shelves again. Suppliers have had to adjust to meet sudden demand and I’m sure they’re all working overtime to get there. I’m fully stocked on tp and paper towels, so I’m not gonna buy anymore because it’s selfish and silly. If I’m out and about and my ex-wife texts me to get some for her I’d do that but no more for me.
