No one out in the streets. Shop was calm in the afternoon (I started at 2PM)… Expecting a calm Sunday as well...

We need more viruses in our lives, if you ask me...

France is shutting down all non-essential shops. It's going to be a hard, hard time for small businesses.

              It already is.

Our taxi driver who bought us home from Heathrow today, an immensely likable and hard-working guy of Bulgarian descent (has a degree in civil engineering, but chose to work taxis as it gives him more flexibility), has had 4 fares in the last 7 days.  He can't pay his rent….

The lidl by my house looked like a hardware store selling shelving.

People were upset that there’s no groceries to be bought.

Some were trying to push their way into the back.

Couple police officers were standing about with shopping carts, presumably to get groceries as well.

Not good when those expected to keep peace and order can’t get food for their families…

There's an interesting thread on Twitter by someone who models pandemics.

                    https://twitter.com/BallouxFrancois/status/1238837158007447558

                    He raises a few concerns:

                    • The virus might fade in the late spring, but come back with a vengeance in the autumn.

                    • We might not develop immunity after infection, meaning a lot of the strategies being promoted to handle it (herd immunity or flattening the peak of the epidemic) might not help.

                    • There are a lot of unknowns, which makes prediction difficult.

                    • And an economic collapse could kill more people than the virus!

Meanwhile Australia has brought in travel restrictions. Everyone arriving from overseas after midnight tonight has to self-isolate for a fortnight.

One thing I was thinking about as I was puking my guts out last night (acute food poisoning): if you get something else other than covid-19 while the medical system is overwhelmed, you're probably still on your own.

Take care everyone, there's a lot worse shit out there than coronavirus.

Do you think human civiliasation, as it currently stands, was «supposed to happen in nature»?

There are a number of authors and anthropologists that point out that there is not supposed to be a population of any species that has such a contiguous density across the globe.

There are a number of diseases that wouldn't even exist today if we didn't have such a high worldwide population (according to them).

I think we may be pretty far away from "supposed to happen in nature."

Exactly that. It’s not called the Androcene Era for nothing.
