IHJ-71 - 18oz Selvedge Denim Type ll Jacket - Indigo
-
How can I expect the 18oz raw to act judging by my pre soak fit pics?
It's going to shrink a bit
I'd say you need that in the shoulder, arms and to a lesser extent body (which is good because proportionally the arms and shoulders will shrink a little more than the body). The length looks good now, but I don't think the 1-1.5cm you'll loose is going to be a problem. How do you feel about the length?
-
@neph93 the length is good, I could lose a centimetre, 2 at most and still feel comfortable. I'm trying to judge using @Steve 's pre/post soak pics. His fits a dream after the soak and looks like a similar fit to mine pre soak from what I can see.
The pre/post soak measurements suggest that should and sleeve shrink is to be expected and seems to lose more than other measurements.
the XL has a 23 inch chest, that would probably be way too small pre soak given that my usual XL or XXL UHF chest measurement is 23.5 inches.
As far as what do I think of the jacket generally? if I was another denim workwear brand, frankly I'd be ashamed of myself. This ting is beautiful, such a great design, well executed as always. The finish is the usual overspec and damn I can tell that this 18oz raw is going to age amazingly with lots of evo promise!

That's always going to be the case with jackets, especially type I,II,II's as it's the longest length of fabric and shrinkage is proportional to length (as the bishop claimed in vain when the disappointed actress left the hotel in disgust).
I reckon you're on to a winner, and you're right the OG 18oz is beautiful stuff.

1 hr hot soak…here goes nothing!
I just turned the jacket inside out. The finish is just exceptionally good, the best of any IH jacket I own, and that is going some. You could wear this jacket inside out and get away with it, it's that good.
-
@Stuart.T - your pre-soak fit looks similar to mine, I found the wash helped the fit at the shoulders and top of the arms, didn't notice too much difference else where, which was perfect. I wear mine everyday now! The bottom button is tight to fit when first washed, but the denim is stretching now, so not a problem.
-
@Steve thanks buddy, that's reassuring, and what I suspected. Did you hot soak and then wash in machine or just hot soak at this stage?
To Quote from There's Something About Mary 'we've got a bleeder'. This gives up loads of beautiful indigo. Is it weird that I love that smell?

Thanks Alex, will do. Definitely getting 555 02 in this material next. It's beautiful.](https://www.ironheart.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=14964)

Hot soak and 40° wash 400 spin…the length is good but there is a lot of room and ballooning across the chest and shoulders. Not sure is another wash might fix that? @Steve did you have that issue, doesn't look like it from your post soak fit pics

I think the fabric has to break in and relax @Stuart.T
-
@Stuart.T I have been wearing my constantly, and the more I am wearing it, the more it sits better on me. I would wear it in a bit.
@Steve and @steelworker…do you know, this really is a case of me knowing the answer already through experience yet I still panic with every new purchase.
I put the jacket through the 'freshen up' setting that our tumble drier has and the denim has softened beautifully. Like you Steve it's the only denim jacket I've worn since Thursday. I'm definitely buying a pair of 555 02 in this material too. It is amazing.
Thanks for your patience and advice.

@neph93 thanks mate. I love this jacket and have worn it almost every day. I don't know why other people haven't posted their pics? Maybe it hasn't been a big seller?

The IHJ-72 did well (well enough that some sizes have been restocked) and this has done ok to the point where some sizes are sold out and others will be soon. Neither were stocked in big numbers though as traditionally type II’s aren’t a big seller through IHUK.

@neph93 I love this jacket. Type IIs were always so iconic in the denim world when I was growing up. They were a true grail item among collectors.
I can imagine that the slightly shorter body length and lack of side pockets put some off, but the large double front pockets and pleats really add something and compliment ownership of a type III too. I'll try and take some better pics today as the sun is shining here today.

I had the older duck type II up for sale recently. It is slightly longer in the body and has a cinch (which I believe is a type I feature). There was very little interest and on reflection I’m glad as I’m looking forward to wearing the fekker again.
I really like this more traditional version too and would have one but as with shirts I’m on a «one in, one out» regime and there is nothing I want to sell right now. First world problems ahoy!
