if your true waist is 30 then get a 29.  they will stretch to 30.  the 634 is easily one of my favorite fitting jeans of all time.

I hope you folks don't mind being a tad patient with me.

I am a bit confused as to sizing and I want to make sure that I get this right. I typically wear a marked size of 36 in Levi 501 STF and if I measure these jeans, they measure about a 37 (and they fit pretty well). If I measure my waist, it measures about 37 also.

So I am unsure as to whether or not to get a 38 or a 36 in the 634s. Based on the measurements I see on the IH sales website, it looks like the 38s measure about 37.4 and that the 36 is pretty much spot on. From what I understand, these jeans don't shrink much and stretch quite a bit. Based on reading posts on here, it seems like nearly everybody sizes down on these things.

My question is this: can I expect the size 38 pants to measure 37 after a soak or a wash? and Even though my waist is a 37, would these pants still stretch from just moving around?

IMO, go for 36 and u will be fine.

Can you give me a better idea about stretching? With a pair of levi's, when they feel snug, I button them up and they are loose within about 15 minutes. Can you give me an idea about how long does it take a pair of Iron Hearts to loosen up?

And yes, 36 would definitely be good enough. I'm a 36 too. They stretch pretty much. Close to about 1 or 1.5 inch.

I have to agree, my jeans tend to stretch to around 37" (true waist) and I'm wearing the 36 634s at the moment. They have been very comfortable after day 2 or so. Nowhere near as stretchy as the 501 STFs though, I felt they were like lycra almost in comparison

Third: my real first straight cut.
Four: Help! I can't take them off…

Size. I'm not very used with straight cut jeans, honestly I own only a pair of average Levi's 501that I worn maybe two times. I don't know. Surely it would have been impossible for me to jump into a 28 with a 28" waist!

Ah, my 301S are back too, hemmed and all.
The chain-stitching thing with that devilish machine was perfect (thank you, Giles!).

right, first post so go easy.  Looking to get some 634s but from what i have read still not sure if to size down 1 or 2 sizes from true waist which is 32.  Im thinking 31 would be fine, am i right?

Best way to do it: Measure pants that fit you well, do it same way as Giles measures. See the How We Measure link on shop item pages.

Once you've done that, report back here with numbers. They'll then get you a perfect fit.

if you got tiny thighs and want a slim fit then 30s will fit.  otherwise do a 31.
This is not like other forums in that we love to help out
