Our high rise relaxed tapered cut 21oz indigo selvedge denim jeans which have undergone a bit of "black magic" - overdyed twice using two different black dyes and two different methods - resulting in a very black finish that will fade very slowly. Don't ask for details of how it's done, Haraki is keeping this dark art a secret.

Is that because they were dyed along with the jeans?
It is a possibility, however I highly doubt it. Overdying is a very aggressive process requiring high temperatures which would result in the patch being warped or even destroyed. Normally the garments are cut, sewn and dyed and then have the patch added.
Jeans made of the super black denim and the IH-634S-21BLK all use black patches that are coloured black then added to the jeans. That is almost certainly what has been done here. It is a design choice to have a black patch.
