Thanks Giles. I did try one on last year at Burg and Schild and I think my arms are shorter than most sadly. Just kills me as I love this jacket!

I tend to have pretty short arms but those storm cuffs really keep the sleeves from slipping forward.

                  Blanket-line all the things!!!

Apart from using wax, a spray based water repellent appropriate for cotton fabric would be fine. On lighter coloured iterations it may darken the fabric.

That being said, the IH N-1’s perform very well in wet weather in my experience, despite being cotton. I wouldn’t wear it out in a torrential downpour or on a long wet day out, but as a winter coat around town it works. It doesn’t seem to absorb water easily. Rain has a tendency to bead and run off. I think it has to do with the tightness of the weave.

Awesome! It looks like that really requires some skills though, aka the potential for damage is real 😉

The worse that can happen is you get a bit too much wax in one area…..But personally, I would not bother, if I wanted full breathable/waterproof, I'd wear one of our technical jackets...

Years ago I once tried this method with my IHM-04, mentioned by @tmg and @Aetas:

It's an easy job to spray the mixture on the wet jacket and to rub away some white residuals with a wet rag when the jacket is nearly dry. But honestly I don't remember if the jacket has been way more water repellent after that treatment (for a longer time).

They are the same as the other N-1 jackets. The design has only changed superficially down the years.

We used to incorrectly describe the lining as Alpaca when in fact it was an Alpaca/wool mix.  That was a lost in translation cock-up. The lining is the same as it always has been….

@Deuce its literally the same jacket with a different colour – the answer to your question lies with your wardrobe since I expect what you mean by "versatility" is that it pairs with the most colours (of your wardrobe). Both blue and black pair well with most other colours. Technically black pairs with everything so perhaps a slight edge for black? We're talking incremental degrees however...I'd suggest you flip a coin or choose which colour you like more 😉

In either case you win with Iron Heart...
