@AdamJ There really is some good stuff out there.  I think that finding the gear that you connect with is half of the fun.  My Fender makes me want to play it and sometimes I sit down with the thought I’ll just play for a few minutes and I end up playing for an hour.

Then I watch a video of some 7 year old kid playing and decide I never want to play again.  There are a lot of talented people out there and I have realized I’m just a hack, but I enjoy it immensely.

@goosehd I know what you mean, spend weeks learning a progression or song, only to see a kid improvise without missing a note for 10 minutes.

Turn the distortion up loud enough and you don't need to be able to hit your notes  😃

I've got a USA Fender Strat that I'll probably never let go. If I was going on the road tomorrow, it probably wouldn't be one that I'd take with me, but damn its usually one of the first ones I grab when I'm just playing around at home.

It's been modded and tweaked so much. Right now, it's got a Suhr single coil in the neck, and a Suhr Thornbucker+ in the bridge. No middle. It's a 5 way switch, but my tech has it wired in a way that only he could explain.

            Wants List:
            IHSH-20-Red, XL
            IHSH-208-Indigo Kersey, L-XL
            IHSH-254-Grey Kersey, L-XL
            IHSW-45 Black, M
            IH-526SV 21oz type III, 38 or 40
            IH-777S-SB size 32
            IH-777S-142 size 31 or 32

Yea I like it a lot. Between that pickup, and all my teles having Lindy Fralin pickups, I really don't even need an overdrive. Just plug and play straight into the Deluxe Reverb (cranked with a Weber MiniMass).

That said, I do have a couple overdrives. I also think I finally can stop changing my pedalboard with my latest setup.  😃

Here’s a little story about pickups.

So I recently ordered a set of pickups from Bareknuckle for my 8 string. I place the order, couple of days later they get in touch to get details of the guitar to make sure the pickups will be a good fit. I provide measurements, pictures, everything they need. They come back to me and recommend I make an addition of pickup covers to the order as that would look and fit better in my particularly guitar. Extra £40, bit steep but crack on I say.

Then begins the six week wait to receive my pickups.

The pickups arrive, all very exciting.

I take my guitar to my tech to get the pickups fitted. Few hours after dropping off I get an email saying the pickups are too big for the holes. Fan-fucking-tastic.

So they go back to Bareknuckle to determine whether they can modify the covers they upsold me. Turns out they can’t. So they’re removing the covers (which they upsold me) and I’m back to my original order.

                  What a faff

@chiverus very nice, how long did hiding all the cables take? I always lose patience so quickly and it ends up in a mess.

Strymon have just released new versions of their main pedal range and I want one badly!  😞

@AdamJ those Strymon ranges are meant to be amazing.. it is embarrassing to admit I had someone build it for me (for the reasons you mention) 😉 but the CXM 1978 is great fun!

@chiverus another one I've always wanted is a JHS Colour Box which I have only ever tested, passed up on a V1 a few years ago and ever since bands/musicians have been touring with them, they have sky rocketed in price  😃

Great idea getting someone else to do it!

@AdamJ  JHS stuff is usually excellent. Did you ever get that new amp? If so, tell us tube or SS? 🙂

And having read this thread again I agree 100% on the quality of Japanese Fender. My first guitar was a Jap Black Strat and was utterly amazing. I can't believe I sold it for next to nothing decades ago. Doh!

A fender custom that they had in stock.  It’s based off a 69 strat.  The paint that they used in 69 was unstable and quickly went from red to pink.  It was the height of the paisley, flower child, era and I thought the history was super cool.  I could never afford a true 69, so this is as close as I can get.

@chiverus No, my two local stores have had major issues with Fender stock, specifically amps and American made guitars, so I have not got round to trying one out. My old acoustic has been seeing a lot more action.

Yep I agree, there is a store on Reverb based in the UK who specialise in re-selling Japanese Fenders. I am getting one next year, no excuses!

@AdamJ are you down near Gosport? If you ever pop up "North" I would recommend Coda Music in Old Stevenage. They usually have good stock of American fender Amps/guitars and are super friendly about demoing whatever you like 🙂 Peach Guitars are also great, but you need to pre-book an appointment.

Love the certainty of next year's Japanese Fender purchase  🙂

We've got PMT in Portsmouth which is a big music shop/warehouse, pretty decent but demo-ing stuff can be a pain.

Fender have released a tone master version of the Princeton Reverb which whilst may not be a true valve amp would work wonders in my flat, built in attenuator!

I tried out the silver face version but couldn't stretch to a grand they'd bumped the price up to  ::)
