Fortis have just released the Stratoliner, a chronograph designed for spaceflight that was launched to the stratosphere as a publicity stunt part of a rigorous testing programme.

Snarkiness aside, I like the clean dial. It's a 41 mm case with a 200 metre depth rating. Price is around $5000 or €5000, depending on the strap or bracelet choice.

Monochrome have more details and pictures of the different dial colours.

You have to pay 5,000 dollars or euros depending on strap or bracelet? Depending on the exchange rate, that could make for an interesting game!  😃

Fortis want to make it mentally challenging in order to weed out those unsuitable for spaceflight.

OK, prices are $5150 / €5300 on a bracelet, or $4800 / €4950 on the strap. The Euro prices include VAT, the US prices don't include sales tax. As I said, around 5000 of each. 😛

5k for a Fortis though? I like it but not at that price.

Do you mean steel case and bracelet? And what's the budget? You can get that look in a whole load of price classes.

If you really want a Rolex, then save up for one. Besides, it'll probably take months or even years to get one, which will give you plenty of time. 😃

I was going to suggest the Oris ProPilot X as being a cheaper Rolex alternative for @Bailey , but it's $5800 here in Australia, versus $8150 for an entry-level Oyster Perpetual, so the gap's not as big as I thought. I like it because it's got its own design, rather than trying to ape something else. (I don't have UK prices, but I'd guess that divide my numbers by two would get you close.)

The Tissot PRX is $1050 in Australia with the Powermatic movement. It got a lot of watch journalists very excited when it was released.

The Rado Captain Cook range are a bit more retro styled. The recently announced Over Pole is very cool. I'm not sure of the price in Australia, it's around $2800 in the US.

Depending on your budget, Tudor, Omega, Seiko, Sinn, Fortis, and Hamilton do various stainless steel tool watches at various price points. But I'd probably lean towards getting something with its own design, rather than aping what Rolex are doing.

Despite having a purchase history with a Rolex AD close to where I live, I was waiting for almost 2 years to get my hands on a Datejust. Yes, just the Datejust and not one of the Diver's model from Rolex which I believe is the most sought after. I just got fed up and went for an Omega AT. Totally worth it in my opinion to look elsewhere. It is this artificial manipulated demand that I do not like.

Currently working in Edinburgh, Scotland.  As you do, I was perusing the watch shops of the city and spotted the first Zenith Defy Skyline I had seen in a store.

Great piece, very well put together and a cohesive design.  I was impressed. If it had been the blue dial version I may well have been lighter in the pocket at the end of the day.

The 10 second sweep of the sub dial is a nice nod to the hi beat movement.

When I got my Omega AT 10 days ago, I was in a huge dilemma if I should get the Speedmaster Pro, but somehow was not comfortable with the 42mm case size and the lack of a Date function. I'm sure I won't repeat it now. A fantastic watch though. Is that a special edition?
