710 19oz will forever be a iconic Jean for me. They don’t hold up to heavy wear like IH do but a great jean.

Construction quality is not up to IH standards, but I have several pairs of 710 I really love.  They make some outstanding denims, even if some of the special editions are a little gimmicky.  Love these:

Old thread, but thought it reasonable to bump here given the focus of this post.

Fit wise, what IH would be most similar to samurai 19oz S710XX-II's in a tag 34? (lot 25 if anyone cares)

          As measured the IH way;
          Waist: 34.5
          FR: 11.2
          RR: 15.5
          Thigh: 12.85
          Knee: 9.25
Would be Hem at 31" inseam: 8.5

Overall fit of the above, they hug the waist and hips very nice. If I could have them custom made, I'd add an extra .25" in the waist to be more relaxed and an extra .25" in the front rise. I'd expect that their snug new fit will break in and stretch about an inch in the waist. The thigh is pretty good. Definitely don't want too much smaller, 12.75 would be the minimum for sure, and probably anything over 13.2 would be too much. Also appreciate the knee on down in this cut, roomy enough, but not at all constricting, and with a light touch of taper and still looked slim'ish.

Am I crazy for thinking a 666-XHSib in a tag 35 or is the shrinkage too much that I'd be suffering?
Obviously the waist on this pair is the biggest departure, but from trying on and owning 21oz IH, there's not a chance in hell I'd ever fit comfortably into 25oz if it was 34.5" in the waist.

You may find the 666 tapers a little less than Samurai’s 710, but it’s a pretty good match.

When it comes to sizing the waist on XHS, it is fairly straightforward. They shrink about 0.5-0.75” and will stretch out an inch. So you want to aim for a pair that start out around about where you want them to finish, or a little smaller.

Also, everyone suffers with XHS at the start. It’s sort of the point. The consensus is that it is worth it.

What about the shrinkage in the thigh? I seem to see numbers all over on XHS from over .5 to .2ish. I know this isnt a science but trying to get a feel. Otherwise, with what you said it sounds like these could be good, though maybe a little big in the waist, which as a belt-wearer I don't care too much so long as it doesnt throw out the hips too far. The trimmer thighs give me some hope.

.5” in thigh will be the result of a measuring error. I’ve had three pairs of XHS and they’ve all shrunk about .3”. They will also stretch out to where they started.

Otherwise, the 666 has the trimmest top block of all IH jeans. Having a little room in the waist is a good thing.

@pechelman have you looked at size chart on vintage 18 oz in 634 cut? The tag 34 almost exactly matches your target measurements. IHUK is sold out in tag 34 but Selfedge has them in the 633 cut, which is almost the same and will likely work for you since you said you like a little taper from knee to hem.

ah, interesting. Those are pretty close.

I'll say though that the 13.2" thigh may be a little big given my experience with 634-21OD's that I have at 13.0 and 888slbs at 13.2" that I've recently posted about that are a little too big. I'm also trying to stick with what's in-stock to use some store credit 🙂

Reviving an old thread/post here…but I just ordered a pair of these (S710XX19ozII) in a tag size 34 and they are en route as we speak from Rivet and Hide.  @pechelman I'm assuming the measurements you have listed are post soak measurements?  Did you throw yours in the washing machine for your soak or just do a tub soak?  Thanks in advance.

I had a pair of tag size 33's in hand but they were just a bit too tight pre soak so I'm going for the 34's.  This fabric is insane…..extremely gnarly ..comparable the UHR in terms of stiffness and feel.  I'm not looking forward to turning these bad bois inside out.  Beautiful fabric though.

The above measurements are after maybe a week or two of wear but no additional soak or wash other than the one that these had originally; the local store said they were one washed already and it shows that way on their website, so I assumed most of the permanent shrinkage would be gone. I hope that's true because they hemmed them already.

Overall, I've come to realize that the 666 is the most similar IH model, with the only real difference being the thigh and top block are just a little slimmer on the IH's.  In terms of the UHR comparison, I'll say the samurai's start off a bit more coarse and crunchy than the UHR's but after about ~1month of wear they got a lot softer. I actually havent been wearing these a ton with the other IH's in rotation now but do really like the fabric.  The feel is sort of like 2 parts UHR with 1 part Slubs.

Awesome, thanks for the info.  I didn't realize they sold them pre-soaked already…the ones at Rivet and Hide are sold in Loomstate form (no soak).  Either way I think size 34 will be perfect for me post soak based on your measurements, R and H's fit guide, and the way the 33's fit me when I tried them on pre soak.

Also good news to hear your assessment on the fit in comparison to the 666 cut.  I'm wearing the 666 14oz Indigo as I type this and they are a great fit on me.  This was my first pair of 666's and the measurements on the 14oz Indigo 666's worked best for me compared to that cut in any other fabric except for maybe the UHR.  I was looking for the fit on my Samurais to be the similar so it looks like I should be happy with them.

Also your description of the 19oz Samurai fabric being 2 parts UHR and 1 part Slub is dead on.  That's a great way to put it.  I honestly didn't realize how slubby the 19oz was until I saw them in person as the pics don't do them justice in that aspect I think.  The slub isn't too intense though like some pairs...it's just enough.

                              Thanks for you input.

Someone please help me find Samurai S520XX 18oz 'Arakage' in a 34 or 36.

                                          UK based.

Willing to go the international route?  BlueOwl (in the US) and Corlection (in Australia) may have your sizes.

Perfect, thank you. Going to try going downunder and asking if they can mark down the value.

                                          XL / XXL / 34
