@neph93  I didn’t think you would actually do this! I’m sure you would have nothing to worry about if it was put to the vote.

If it's not at least slightly perverse, is it really a sense of humour?

I think it's not so much the sense of humour I underestimated, but how much everyone here is wiling to indulge each other (one of the things I love about this place).

So I promised y'all a top 5 of some kinds… I had so many incredible beer ths year... I watched y'all post some incredible looking beers every god-dang day  😃 I love this thread so much... Now: I will post a top 5 or top 10 maybe later on... It's only Nov 19 after all... But the beer that wins this year well... It has to be DE DOLLE DULLE TEVE RISERVA 2018. Not because it was limited to 250 (and instantly became a bit of a whale for some 'mericans); not because my mate scored the LAST BOTTLE in the damn shop; not because it was the beer I enjoyed most this year (I'll be honest with you: I'm not thàt big on sours), but because I have a huge soft spot for DDB... Absolutely anti-commercial, and also one of the first breweries who started barrel aging beers... STILLE NACHT RESERVA being of course their most known beer... Have two in a fridge somewhere... Perks of living in Belgium I guess  😉

One of the last things I did with my dad before he died of pancreatic cancer, was visit De Dolle... I commented on their hugely cute silkscreened metal tables they had set up outside and what d'you know... He was able to buy a brand new one of them from De Dolle... It has and always will be in my living room...

Of course... My mate got jealous and contacted them and he was able to buy the LAST GOD DAMN TABLE they stored on some attic from them  😃 So this pic is just the best of all worlds for me... Best brewery, best table (thanks da, miss ya heaps), best mate, great beer  🙂

                  @Seul:

Dolle Brouwers Dulle Teve Riserva 2018… Sold out in a mere week.

Dulle Teve that has been aged on used Massolino Chardonnay white wine barrels for almost 3 years.

@Seul I see a cork (and an opener) and cap in the picture.  Two different items: a beer and a wine?  They aren't corked and capped are they?

I could do one of those…

I’m on a TIPA trip. Not good for me. Same strength as impy stouts but impossible to sip.

HUGE shout to Pomona Island for referencing War of the Worlds….

@Seul As the others have pointed out, and you being the resident connoisseur:  Can you tell us what makes a good beer great?  I’m sure most of us have had bad beers and a few horrible ones, but I can only guess what some of your beers have tasted like.

Is it flavours, carbonation, rarity?  Is it like a good wine or dram of scotch?

                                        I feel like I’m missing out…

Maybe you should offer tours based on beer for us deprived souls.

Really appreciate your help and insights!

@goosehd I really think that’s kind of subjective as a great beer to me,might be something that you would spit out. I think we all have certain mental checklists when it comes to beer, and when you get a beer that checks all those boxes…BOOM. Having said that, for whatever reason,I absolutely cannot drink IPAs. I’ve tried and tried. So you could give me the best one and I’d pour it down the drain. But whenever anyone here puts up a stout or porter,I generally think, based on what people post, that if I could get it I would like it. Sorry for rambling.

@Jett129 It makes perfect sense and it’s not rambling.

Tastes are all subjective.  I’ll never be able to taste a wine and tell you where it’s from, what year it is, or the guy who picked it.  On occasion I’ve had a wine, scotch, or cognac that has blown me away.  Sadly, I’ve never had a beer that has done the same for me.

I see all of your postings about beer and hope to one day experience that feeling with beer.  I have ones I’ve liked and ones that I tend to go to, but would just once have a great beer.

Now I’m rambling and hope I make a little sense.

Off topic:  thanks for the Buddy Rich/Lewis post!  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  Always loved him (Rich) and enjoyed the antics of Lewis.
