Grooming and Hygiene

Indeed. Should last me about 3 months, I think. Maybe 4. Return to ‘in-person work’ has me bathing a bit more.

@Kirk after seeing your post, I went and checked out Shear Revival and really dug their products. Ended up getting their "Loom" shampoo and conditioner, as well as the "Gray Ghost" cream pomade, which has an incredible scent and I love the texture. Stuff showed up today and I was super happy with all of it. Kinda wish I'd gotten the "lazy bones" combo, but there's always next time.
Thanks for posting up the sale info -
Right on, Jason @Joberwocky. Good stuff, for sure. I was impressed by the quick turnaround in shipping/delivery
But all thanks goes to @Matt. He definitely deserves a cut from Shear Revival for putting us onto them. Brand ‘Influencer’

I really just started getting to know pomades and really using them in the last year or so. I started with, King Snake, not a fan. Tried Lay-Rite, it was okay and then got on the Ruezel train. I really like some of it but would love to find better if it’s out there. Matt or anyone else care to compare some of these latest suggestions to Ruezel I’d be really grateful. If it helps, I really use the Grey tin of Ruezel, super high hold but still easy to wash out, ie water based. FWIW My hair is stick straight and needs some serious grease to keep it where I want it LOL

@zhivago if a strong grease is what you’re after I’d try Goon Grease by Lockharts. They’re another solid brand. The ones I mention above are some of my go tos. I always have a couple of their products in my line up. I haven’t used Reuzel or Lay Rite as I pretty much jumped right into the Home Brew market from the start. I like the aesthetic better and the reviews I’ve read or seen online are generally better.
If you want to go down a pomade rabbit hole I’d recommend review videos by The Pomp. That’s where I started and he never steered me wrong. He doesn’t do them any more, his friend Harry does them now, but his reviews aren’t as good in my opinion. I’d skip those and just go back through the timeline to check out the ones by James. If you do watch or read them be sure to be mindful of the dates. If you go too far back the product has a greater chance of having gone through a reformulation at some point.

Thanks @Matt!! As soon as I said grease I realized the error in my ways as I WAY prefer the water based pomades to the petroleum based ones. I just can't make that jump especially when my hair has any real length to it, which it generally does. However, I do like the term grease so I lump all the pomades into that category, right or wrong…
I checked out the Shear Revival and put in a order for 3 different poms and a texture spray. Then I checked out O'Douds and grabbed one of theirs, plus that copper comb, that thing looks rad
Anyway, that should set me up for a little while!
Reuzel is nice enough for what it is and works well but I am WAY more stoked to check out these Home Brews as you guys call them. I like to level up when I can

That’s awesome. What did you get from O’Douds? I have used their Multi-Purpose Pomade, their Summer Pomade, and the Matte Paste. The Matte Paste is awesome. I’m currently using the Multi Purpose that’s infused with CBD oil and has a orange basil scent. It’s very nice. The Multi-Purpose, before it was called that, was my first jar of home brew pomade. They’ve improved it quite a bit since then.
-
From O'Douds I went with the Traditional Heavy Pomade
From Shear Revival I grabbed Gray Ghost, Gel Pomade, Crystal Lake and the texture spray.I forgot to mention I have also been trying out Modern Pirate, not blown away but the scents are nice and organic ingredients mostly. Not a huge fan of the washability of it, but that's more my OCD than actual performance I think
-
Tell me how ya like the gray.ghost @zhivago , I thought it was great. I was interested in the gel pomade, I'd be curious how.you think it compares to the cream. Sounds like a great haul

I love the Gray Ghost. They just released a collab with their Canadian retailer of it with a mango coconut based scent. They sold out on their site but the Can retailer may still have some.
Crystal Lake is one of my all time favorites but I don’t care for the newest scent. The previous scent was my absolute favorite.
-
Is the mango one the toucan trading Collab? I might have to look into that
-
I can't find it on their site @Matt , I suspect it's sold out
-
@Joberwocky go to the Toucan Trading home page and keep scrolling down.
-
Haha, thanks @Matt I scrolled though all the haircare and didn't see it, woulda never just scrolled down on the homepage
Edit: darn, I want it, but the $27 is a hard pill to swallow

Yeah, it was $18 on the SR site. Canadian markup I guess.

For me on the SR site, I woulda nabbed some oil or beard care at the same time and hit the free shipping threshold.
