those bowls are gorgeous Giles. Did you use your homemade noodles from the other day?

We (used to) frequent a Japanese restaurant for ramen but haven't been in quite awhile.

You are making me crave Ramen, but i also miss my favorite appetizer.

If you want to keep on the Japanese theme in the kitchen, I highly recommend trying Chicken Kaarage (Japanese fried chicken).

The bowls are 19th century Minton, the pattern is Amherst Japan.  Ever since the first time I saw one, I fell in love. I buy them whenever I find one at a good price.  I have a few now  🙂

My favourite colourway, but exceedingly hard to find…..

I will try the Kaarage, thank you.

@Giles I love that pattern.  Gorgeous.

Do you have any idea what this pattern is?  Found it in an Antique shop and it’s my favourite tea cup/saucer.

Thank you, and because the pattern is "Japan" it's very appropriate….

Re: yours, I don't I am afraid.  I'm no expert but I'm guessing it is genuinely oriental as there are no western markings on it....

I bidding on this as a present for P atm....

Also quick question about the Giles and Paula cups/mugs? on your shelf.  I like the seal with the underwater mine, and the crab with the torpedo.  Where did you find those?

Aren't they amazing.  They were a present from some very good German friends.  They were at my Kanreki in The Explosion Museum

Incidentally, on the foreshore in front of which, is where I fish a lot and where I found this hyper-cool stone shot from the 17th Century lying in the mud…

The setting of, and artefacts in,  Explosion left a lasting impression on them, so they had these made with images that conjured up memories of that party…...

@Giles Thank you for the link to the Explosion Museum.  I've just spent an hour reading about the Armada Maps and the battles depicted.  Great history lesson.

Yep… :D. First time we have had good seafood in 10 years (kids...). We forgot how good it is, and the kids loved the crab legs.  The oysters were a hard pass from the 5yo, and the 10yo at least tried it...then promptly spit it out. 😃

Maybe the kids will come around. I did. My grandfather was a part of popularising king crab as a food in the USA (was already popular in Japan) in the 1950's, and the family fishing business was healthy until overfishing depleted stocks in the 80's. My family ate fish for most dinners, and oysters were a special once in a while thing to have. Here's an old ad from Life Magazine the company did.
