I’ve looked at the Billingham Eventer Bag for a long time and luckily this week I  found a low miles used model on the Bay. Condition-wise the bag has the right amount of patina to keep it from looking brand new but has tons of life left in it. I spent some time painstakingly applying Mustang Paste to the leather bits and boy is it beautiful.

The stitching is gorgeous (like a fine watch strap) and the leather feel and quality feel very high end. The canvas is also very nice. I was expecting a thick twill like Filson bags it’s a bit thinner and a lot finer. It is supposed to be fairly water repellent as well.

I’ll mostly be carrying the bag as an overnighter so it’s more than I needed for that purpose but will be a good all around addition to my carry.

Btw does anyone have a good source for Mustang Paste? I’m about out and my local leather shop woman owns a horse ranch so I’m sure AF not asking her…

My Ortlieb addiction continues similar to @Giles

I replaced a standard 110 litre Mammut cargon duffle bag with an Ortlieb RS wheeled Duffle in 110 litre flavour.  The non wheeled Mammut duffle when fully loaded was a bit too heavy for comfortable travel.  The RS looks to be a good replacement as it is one of the lighter wheeled duffles available.  The RS saves weight by not using a full telescopic style carrying frame and handle.  The RS has an aluminium base plate and a simple strap style handle to pull the bag with.  There is a larger 140 litre version but I chose the 110 litre model as I had read that some airports insist on the 140 litre bag being treated as oversized luggage.  The 110 Ortlieb bag is at least 20% larger than the 110 litre Mammut bag it replaces. Ortlieb litres must be larger than Mammut ones??  😃

I have also bought my daughter a 34 litre Ortlieb RG roller duffle for her Birthday this coming week ( she will be 10 and wants to replace her old "babyish" travel bag with a more grown up bag ).  The RG bag comes with a full aluminium frame / baseplate and telescopic handle.  I am hoping she like it, fingers crossed.

Looks like some amazing high quality construction on these Ortlieb bags. I would like to see one in person some time to really check them out. As a luggage and carry geek I feel like I’m a little late to the game on this brand.

I’m sure your daughter will love her bag. We bought my 10 yo a Rimowa carry-on she is thrilled not only to have a piece of adult luggage, but one that matches ours. It’s funny how she has decorated it and babies it [emoji1]

And yes, sometimes I have to check them in as oversized.  Not an issue for me, as I normally have a rod tube with me anyway  🙂 🙂 🙂

@Anesthetist the Carryology X Mystery Ranch bag looks good, though I noticed that it sold out within 32 seconds of being announced.

I've been eyeing up the Kasperi Fold Top in natural. They look an interesting bag, and the Carryology Review was positive.

                    I'm going to tag @Filthy because he's bag shopping, but I don't think that it's what he's after. 🙂

Whilst trying to find the details of the Kasperi bags, I stumbled across Savotta, and I particularly like their Jääkäri S, which is a really simple 20 to 30 litre backpack.

They have the best product test videos…

Glad you managed to score one!

Not used it yet as when being going into the office, been using the Unicorn.

What do you think? I have not experienced Dyneema before…...

@cutlasshound I carried it Weds for a 3 mile hike with my daughter and it is a really comfortable bag. With our rain kit, snacks, and water it was about 1/3 of the way full but just super light with the futura harness. The materials are still really stiff but the bag has a very premium feel and it will soften up nicely over time. I think this is my 5th or 6th dyneema bag and my experience with the fabric has been very positive. My SDR traveller duffle is still my favorite travel bag and it has held up well despite some abuse. The dyneema stick it is really, really well done. I like the functionality of a beaver tail but hate looking like a mall ninja with all that molle. The way this bag can fold it up is just brilliant.

The bag might be a little more size-wise than I need for our outings but it is really well organized so things don’t get lost. I plan on carrying it again today with a similar set up and am looking forward to it. I think the bag will be a good travel bag once I feel brave enough to stick under an airplane seat [emoji2961] The bag should hold enough for a weekend+ with some creative packing.

My other backpacks are a Nomin I and a Bagjack Naturetec ruck which have set the bar really high but I think the MR can hang with them. Well, maybe not quite because the Nomin is such an amazingly beautiful and functional bag…..but really close. That Nomin though.....damn I do love it.

I still am a little miffed that my Unicorn order was cancelled (their online inventory management spoofed) because I think it would have been a better size and more my style per se. The Dragon does lessen the sting though and I imagine it will serve me well.

@Anesthetist I reckon that your bag collection probably cost as much as the One Bag To Rule Them All! 😉

I like simple packs, and the Dragon is way too complex for my tastes. I was eyeing up the Hyperlite Mountain Gear Metro Pack, which is at the other end of the complexity spectrum, but it appears to be sold out everywhere.

The Z-Packs Midway is another Dyneema bag that looks interesting, but it's possibly too small, and there have been some complaints on Reddit about their customer service. (If I was getting one, I'd add their duffle to the order.) I also like Le Sac Vvorker, unfortunately they don't offer shipping outside of Western Europe.

I'm tempted by the Kasperi myself, although the Frank Clegg and Lotuff bags seem a bit better finished. I also like the Racing Atelier Rucksack 1, though it'd be even more awesome if the used Hyperlapse (thin shaved leather with a Dyneema backing) for the body.

You may be right about that Graeme especially if you are counting luggage [emoji15]

Hyperlite makes killer stuff and wouldnt mind one of their bags but my next piece will prob be an ultralite from Alpine Ludites. I saw their pinnacle in x-pac and love it.

That racing ruck is FUNKY! I kind of like it but kind of have mixed feelings. [emoji848][emoji848][emoji848]

And yeah the Dragon is way more complicated than my Nomin or Bagjack but variety is the spice of life. That being said, my bag storage area is getting pretty full. I’ll be piecing off a few at the least [emoji26]
