Watched The Sound Of Metal last night, about a drummer who looses his hearing. Was initially not going to watch it but it’s getting a lot of nominations/Oscar buzz. Not really sure how I feel about it. Curious if anyone else had seen it?

I’ve got Nomadland next up on the list when I have time. Any feedback on that yet anyone?

I initially thought,as a drummer with hearing loss, No Fucking way do I want to watch this. As time want on and(as I previously said)it started getting some good reviews and award show buzz,I decided to watch it. There were some holes in the story for me,that my wife told me I should forgive as it’s just story telling. Maybe someday we’ll discuss it over a pint or three.    Wife and I both loved Nomadland.

Nomadland was quite good, McDormand was astonishing.

Outstanding. Frances is a shoe in for the Oscar. I strongly suspect but never bothered to confirm that most of the rest of the cast are not professional actors/actrsses.

I personally didn't love Mank.  It was too on the nose for me, and I'm generally pretty forgiving of even heavy-handed directorial conceits.  Purely an opinion, I would agree that Oldman is often good, and certainly don't wonder why anyone else liked it.

Reason I came here, though, was to mention that I watched Kill Bill II (speaking of directorial conceits!) for the first time in a long while.  The thing is just amazing.  One of those movies that I remember completely, and yet it still blows me away.  One where I sit all the way through the credits just to stay in the world.  If you haven't seen it in a while, go give it another watch.
