@neph93 Nice work! It's also interesting how much the fabric softens up and shapes to your frame with some wear. I tried on a brand new one and it looked completely different, not to mention tough as hell.

The 19L fabric is wonderful. I notice you've referred to it as underrated recently and you couldn't be more right. It deserves to be as féted as the 21oz or XHS. My 666 in indigo are the comfiest jeans I own by a country mile, and the fading is delightful. It's fascinating stuff as it drapes in a unique way as you say.

@going_to_battle I think you're right about the sizing. A few years back, I bought the "normal" version of this jacket and had to return it because the arms were so long. I don't think this has that problem, though, since the overdying process takes out all of the srink. I suppose we will find out soon either way once the measurements are posted. I know they are going to be different this time because of the sizing issues Giles mention a couple months ago.

Am I right that it tends to be slimmer in the body and longer in the arms than most IH type 3s?

The last iterations could be described that way. Longer in the body too. Wait for the new dims to come up though, and use the compare function to get an understanding of the fit. You have (or have had), an IH 14oz type III, no? Comparing dims with that will work.

I've had the following type III jackets…

IH-526J 21oz: I sold this because I wanted hand pockets and it was a bit too boxy for my liking

IH-526PJ 21oz: I loved this jacket but there were a couple of issues which resulted in me selling it recently - it was a size large but a tad too small for me, and I could never find the right pair of jeans to wear with it. However, I was very tempted to buy the size XL in the recent sale, as I miss it (I tend to go around in circles like this - I'm way too indecisive).

IH-526ODG olive whipcord: Another great jacket that I owned from new but sold it a few weeks ago because I hadn't worn it much, probably because it was a tiny bit tight through the chest/body, despite being a size XL.

I love the idea of owning an Iron Heart 21oz jacket but I need to find one that's slim fitting and flattering while having room for a layer or two, while also being able to match it with jeans. Doing so is a fine art! I enjoy the challenge though and I'll get there eventually.  🙂

Of those three it will be most similar to your IH-526PJ-21 in terms of fit..

@going_to_battle what you said about the ODG caught my eye.  Make sure that you check the size charts and buy based on measurements and not based on your usual size. I tend to go medium or large but had to size up to XL in the ODG.  Just wanted to make sure you get the correct size with the Lod.

Courtesy of Jett, I now have two LOD, one for tees and one for thicker layers. Wouldn’t recommend getting two, but if you are that discerning which a lot of us are then maybe that’s an option.

My sleeves always come up too long in jackets. Use to bug me a lot but now I love the folded cuff look. And when not cuffed it allows for more sleevecombs.

Being discerning is one thing, but finding a way to make something work within your standards is therapy. Haha. My 2cents.

The ODG was actually one that I bought in person (from Rivet & Hide). It fitted really well. The problem was, I bought it in July last year, on the hottest day in UK history! So I was only wearing a thin t-shirt underneath. I tend to wear a Large in IH items but bought an XL as it felt like the right fit, so I’m not against buying unusual sizes. I actually think the ODG has a very slim fit (I’ve read that elsewhere and the measurements seem to back it up).

I have learned that I need to think carefully about what I plan to wear under my jackets. It’s ok to have summer jackets but I think I’d wear my next type III jacket in autumn and spring, with maybe a couple of layers or an UHF.

My first type III is three seasons. I now have a summer type III, and a two season type III that I’ll be able to use as a four season type III under my slightly large N-1.

Jepp. That’s my two season IH-526-22OD. It’s right at the sweet spot.

I would do the same as you, except I also have about ten other jackets, mostly Indigofera, e.g. Grant jacket for summer, Kurt chore jacket, Copeland and Fargo shirt-jackets, and also Filson short lined cruiser, Iron Heart N1 deck jacket, etc. So I've probably already got all bases covered and don't really need another jacket… but I'd like a type III. I just need to make sure it fills a niche purpose in my wardrobe.

And I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes my go-to day-to-day jacket.

                                Good tip, thanks.

I know some people like the style of very small type III jackets that they can barely do up, but I think I've reached the stage in my life where I'd rather have something more practical…. without it being oversized. In otherwords, a good fit  🙂

The ODG whipcord is also the only IH I bought in person (also R&H) and I’m glad I did because of the slimmer fit. They suggested to size up to XXL instead of my regular XL. Love that jacket. I can’t wait to start wearing it over my brand new IHSH-33B.
