nice place, have a great holiday @neph93

God has blessed you richly, so get down on your knees and thank him. Don’t forget the less fortunate or God will personally kick your ass. I’d love to do it for him, but I can’t be everywhere. Willie Nelson

Thank you sir. It was a good start. We’ll be driving around 300km today, but split into two. Most of the day will be spent at an animal park with wild animals mostly from Scandinavia. Lynx, bears, wolves, wolverines etc.

Oh, and are there any amateur geologists here? There was an incredible collection of rocks in the river shallows yesterday. I’ll
Post then if anyone wants to help me work it out.

I know little about rocks and geology, but it struck me as interesting that the stretch of river that ran past the camping site had rocks along the bank that were extremely varied. As far as I could tell there was some limestone, sandstone, a lot of granite, and elements of quartz and iron. There were also some crazy examples of lava patterns, and a lot of boulders showing multiple rock types in one.

The following were all found together in an area of about ten square meters, if anyone knows anything about this stuff, I’d be interested in hearing about it.

Gorgeous! Some of it looks like petrified wood to me. Granite and limestone, also. I’m not at all familiar with what one might encounter in Norway geologically, but I do love rocks.

Me too. It was the amazing variety that struck me as special. There is a lot of granite, quartz infused with iron up where I live, but I’ve never seen anything like that.

Saw some beasts with my little beasts today…

                    Wore my favourite t-shirt too…

The little ones found hotel life comfortable  after cabin life…

We’re just outside of Trondheim now. Over 400km to drive tomorrow (about 5 hours), through some amazing countryside, but the destination will be our home for five nights.

Finally arrived at our destination for the next five days. Drove along one of the most dramatic and beautiful roads in Norway. We didn’t stop but I got Hot Ingrid to take some photo’s as we drove:

Not a bad view from the gas station where we ate burgers for dinner:

We went straight up to the cabin that sits amongst the mountain pastures… it was nice to get out of the car.

Ingrid warmed herself in the tour jacket

                      We had some visitors…

And I wonder if Haraki-san could use this for UHF’s:

Ok @neph93  @sabergirl  My twin can say some good things about the rocks. The first pictures look like marble that has been regionally metamorphosed, note the folding of the rock. calc-silicate gneiss is another name for this type of rock. Other rocks look like gneiss and granite. Picture number 7, the flat rock looks like an igneous rock, granite. The following 2 pictures show gneiss, a regional high grade metamorphic rock.

Been a busy five days at my mother-in-laws family home. Lots to share here, so I’ll portion it out.

We’re here to celebrate the 85th birthday of the matriarch of the family. The birthday dinner was at a mountain hotel. Hard to work IH into a more formal outfit, but the vest is Indigofera, the footwear is Wesco and my belt was OGL. I was wearing IH boot socks. My chino’s are off brand. If I wore them more often I’d consider buying an IH pair, but I din’t think they’ll ever be my jam.

Later that night there was a big party at the family cabin on the high pastures. It got messy, but I can share my pics from 3am as the sun came back up…

After that we spent a couple of days alone at the cabin…weather was crap but we had good friends and decent clothing so we didn’t care.

The first day started with the ritual clearing of sheep shit from around the cabin (with the occasional cow pat thrown in). The pastures are still used as such and there is a heard of cattle and a a lot of sheep roaming free. I think I removed about 30 individual stools.

It is still charming to have the animals around though…

We basically just wandered around the area all day. The kids find a lot to do.

Nice to get back to the cabin to chill out though.

That evening i took a trip up a valley with a friend to fish the river. We walked upstream for an hour then worked our way back down, stopping to fish in between the rapids. Only small trout available but a lot of fun.

We are not north of the arctic circle here, but it still remains pretty light, even with cloud and rain. Repped IH as alternative mountain chic.

It is great fun being able to rock-hop so you end up fishing from massive boulders midstream, with the water raging around you.

Other things to catch than fish…

Then home for a nice beer around midnight as darkness finally drew in.
