In Norway carrying is legal «in context». So a small penknife, is pretty much always fine as it has general applications. The exceptions would be if you were stopped in a bar on Friday night. If you’re on your way to the cabin, doing work in the home, going camping or even about your daily business, and have an any acceptable, likely, contextual reason for the knife you are carrying then you’re OK.

The same line of thinking makes any knife that has design features or a style making it threatening, easily concealable, attack minded etc, automatically illegal to buy, sell, import or own. This includes switchblades, throwing knives, butterfly knives etc, etc.

@neph93 these are my rotation of edc knives.for my needs, a deep carry clip and one hand opening are essential. I think there is a risk of people buying knives that are way over spec and too expensive for their needs. You see it all the time on forums. I apply the same principle to knives as I do watches… Are the materials and build value for money, is it aesthetically pleasing to me, would it get daily use?

@Stuart.T is the UKPK the S110V version? I've been thinking of picking one up and would be interested in your thoughts on it

Lovely looking collection. I could do with something like that Bean at some point. And the top knife is very pleasing to my eye.

@LewisStonehouse it is the S110V version. I can't really say anything bad about it. Honestly I'm not a fan of the shape of some Spyderco blades. Of my knives, I prefer the viper Dan, and though it is technically UK legal, it is quite big.

The UKPK S110V is super sharp out of the box. Its the only knife I've accidently cut myself on. Fit and finish are great, it's USA made, and for a denim head, it's dark blue, so no noticeable denim bleed after carry. My viper and real steal both have some indigo bleed on them now, which is annoying. All in all, for materials v price, it's good value and performs well.

@neph93 the Bean is incredible value for money. It's the knife I carry in the office, and as a social worker (as with teacher!), you don't want to be caught carrying a machete. I investigate professionals that have committed offences… Don't really want to investigate myself  😃

Viper are very underrated. Have a look at a Viper Key. They are a nice looking pocket knife, in a more traditional sense.

As @DougNg pointed out, Bestech make a couple of very nice one hand opening UK friendly knives. The Tulip is on my list as a next to buy office carry

Viper Dan is a lovely knife. Love the olive micarta and they do a few different versions along with different blade shape.

I have the silver twill carbon fibre one. Lovely knife. Although I snapped the pocket clip!

@neph93 it’s non stainless and will stain or patina.  Spyderco uses really nice burnt orange for the handles which you can get in G10 or FRN depending on the model.  It’s not as easy to sharpen.

Thank you sir. It was the Spyderco FRN Native with the afforementioned steel I was looking at. I really like the profile of the native and the orange is pleasing on the eye as well as being a useful colour for some one who leaves shit lying around while he is working.

I’ve gone for the Carbon Para 3 with the ballbearing steel instead. The extra access to the one-handed opening mechanism should be useful, the steel should be something I can learn to sharpen and I’ll just have to get good at using the clip to keep the bugger about my person. I need to do that anyway as kids + supersharp knives lying around = missing fingers.

It's a great knife.  I think you'll like it.  There are after market pocket clips if you like the knife to sit deeper in your pocket.  Unfortunately the Para 3 is notorious for having the pocket clip positioned under the lanyard hole making it stick out a bit further.  It never bothered me enough to buy a new clip but if you spend any time reading up on the Para 3 you'll see this is a common point of discussion.  The action on mine right out of the box was really smooth.  I trust you'll share the same experience.  Learn to flick it open with your middle finger instead of your thumb if you want to be a true Spyderco nerd.  Sadly my new Spydiechef does not allow for that with the frame lock getting in the way.  😢

Thanks for the details. I will be exploring different clip/carry options but the inside of vests, type III and CPO’s seems the most likely. I will also be playing with opening closing possibilities. We could open a sweepstake on how many days until I cut myself badly enough to require medical attention.
