Going through some spring cleaning over the weekend and got reacquainted with this beauty. For background, Jimmy Lile was a US-based knifemaker who was asked by Sylvester Stallone to make the knives for the first two Rambo films. This is the 1st version from the movie First Blood.

Jimmy made 13 of the original and half of those went to Stallone. The remainder are in private collections and run about $50k each. This version is Jimmy's design but made in partnership with custom knifemaker Vince Ford in a 100-piece run.

I'm going to reverse my stance when it comes to automatic knives, specifically OTF knives.
The conversation here spurred me to bring up while catching up with some friends that have either worked or work in law enforcement if an auto knife is good for self defense.
They brought up a good point, when you're getting pounded on or trying to retain your weapon, pulling out a pocketknife, putting your thumb on a thumbstud or index finger on a flipper, flipping out the knife and THEN having to readjust your grip is tough. According to them, there's a pretty high chance of dropping the knife. Having an auto you wouldn't have to adjust your grip. With that being said, they say a fixed blade is best.
Giving the Microtech Dirac a try after those conversations.

@DougNg crikey I find it so sad that that's the perspective of a police officer. For me a kinfe is for opening packages and other such tasks. I really hope we can all get to a point where it doesn't feel necessary to pre-empt the use of lethal force just to keep safe  😞

Why? He has a family and a right to defend himself both personally and professionally. I’m not defending the egregious attacks that officers have perpetrated but there are legit reasons for drawing a weapon.

I dont know Doug personally, but after reading him on the forums for the last 10 years, he seems to know his shit.

If I’m misunderstanding your perspective and you are making more of a social commentary then I apologize for calling you out. It’s easy to misconstrue opinions in the world that we live in today.

Where did I say lethal force was going to be used preemptively?

@Anesthetist  yes I think you've got the wrong end of the stick. No criticism meant to @DougNg at all, I'm sure he's a great person whose last intention is to bring harm to anyone. I was more saying that it's depressing that the state of things is that such a person feels that their only option is to carry a deadly weapon just to be safe. Sorry if that's offended anyone, not intended at all

                                  I’m not sad.

I take the personal responsibility of being able to defend myself. I don’t expect anyone else to do it for me, but if they are available, I will take it.

The world has never been a safe place. Even the most primitive of animals have the ability to defend themselves.

Humans are just the only ones that believe that they’re above it.

I respect your point of view @DougNg, and am guessinf you're in the states where you have the 2nd amendment. In the UK, if you defended yourself with a lethal weapon you'd likely face criminal charges because it would be considered premeditated. Not sure what the answer is, I just think it's a shame we can't do a little better than the most primitive of animals.

Sorry, just to add that the comment on police officers wasn't regarding the isolated cases of police brutality, but rather that the genuine advice of someone in that position was to use such a weapon. Again, not a criticism of the law enforcement officer, just commentary on the state of things. Possibly coming across wrong as coming from a UK perspective

To be able to fight and choose not to do so makes you better.

I genuinely can’t think of anything more selfish than to be voluntarily helpless.

                                            1. Run
                                            2. Threaten and shine flashlight
                                            3. Call for help
                                            4. Fight

I just make sure I can take each option to the 11th degree.

If I knew I were going to get into trouble in advance, I’d just check into a hotel room where no one could find me, so I maximize my abilities.
