No it isn't. My wife's mother is from there and we visit regularly. I'll be there in the summer in fact. Lovely part of the country.

I live in the forest on Mount Akagi in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. My wife, daughter and I live in a log cabin. There is one other guy up here who wears IH jeans, he is Japanese, in fact he turned me on to them. I am from the UK, my wife is from Japan, and our daughter is half/half, naturally!

                    Hey everyone!

My name is Charlie, I live with my fiance in Albany, NY.

The last couple years I've gotten into raw denim, most of my collection is from Pure Blue Japan but that might be changing soon…. Recently I ordered my first pair of jeans directly from IH (IH-888S-OD) I can't wait to start breaking them in!

Hey Charlie, welcome to the forum. Great first purchase, I picked up a pair myself recently and love them. Let us know what you think.

My mom is Japanese. I moved to the US in '89 and have been here ever since (gah, i'm old), but I was born in Japan and lived there until I was 17. I'm a military brat – my dad was in the Air Force and he was stationed all over Japan.

@TSG  Ahh, mate; that sounds like a wonderful place to live!  I'm from the UK, too, and I lived in Niigata for a little over 6 years.  Met my wife whilst living there, and we moved to her home state of Minnesota about 8 years ago.  It's really very pleasant here, and I much prefer my current job to my old profession of ALT-ing, but I still miss my old mountain village in Niigata!

Yes, it's a great place to live. It gets pretty cold up here in winter, but we have our wood stove to keep us warm, and plenty of wood to burn, too! We've in Gunma for 20 years, I met my wife traveling in India. We will probably go back to the UK to live at some point, but I think we will be here for another 3 - 5 years. I guess it gets pretty cold in Minnesota, too! Cheers, Sam

Yeah, it got down to -27F in my town last month…  Minus fifties in terms of windchill.  Was pretty fun.  Now we're getting record February snowfall, smashing the old record by around a foot already!  Mind you, this is a record for Minnesota... so we're only talking less than 3 feet total snowfall for the month.  Not exactly Yukiguni!

Thinking of moving back to Blighty, ay?  Y'know...  Despite spending the first 25 years of my life there, I can't say I really miss the place all that much.  Whenever I get homesick, it's nearly always for Japan.  It's a funny old world.

Just my wife and I. Down the mountain in the city of Maebashi. Not much snow this year, but our daughter has been skiing. I don't really miss England cos we go there every couple of years. but I still love the countryside. And IH is in Gosport, where I lived for many years!! Small world indeed.

Oh, cool!  I had a buddy back in Joetsu who had his own little English school.  Think he was pretty happy with it.  I lived in Uonuma for my first 5 years in Japan, which was just an incredible wonderland in the winter.  I remember my first winter there when it was particularly snowy and the standing snow was probably a good 8 or 9 feet high.  Had a ski hill in my village.  Heaven!
