So I went to the Vintage Rolex Forum x Fourtané meet last weekend in Carmel-by-the-Sea (see below for the link) and it was wonderful. I met a lot of wonderful people there, Eric Ku included, and saw the below Oysterquartz. I knew my father would love it so I let him know about it and now he's the proud owner of this 1980 Datejust Oysterquartz! It's his first vintage piece and he couldn't be happier. I love that I was able to convince him to get it and offload his regular Datejust  😎

About 10 years ago I had a dealer offer me an Oysterquartz for $700 and I sadly passed on it because we were buying a house. [emoji24]

I’d love to have one in veg tan but unfortunately leather and hospitals dont mix well. I’d love even more to have a sterling bracelet but keeping my wife from tearing off my genitals is my first priority.

Wimp! Who needs testicles when you have a sterling silver Rolex strap  😃

Tried on the Panerai PAM01535 this week while in Vegas. The size works for me, I prefer a 12 hour GMT scale over a 24 hour, and the hobnail dial is really cool in person, but 100m water resistance for a dive watch? Really Panerai?!?

Hoping to see the Oris Propilot Worldtimer in person today before heading to dinner. Pretty sure it's going to be too big for my tastes.

Also checked out a blue dialed Reverso at JLC. Jody found a blue dialed one too. We are talking about getting the pair for our 10 yr anniversary in a few years and having the flip side engraved with our wedding date

Jody doesn't care that hers would be quartz, and honestly she's even harder on gear than I am, so it's probably for the best.

The JLC reverse is a classic. It's funny to think that it was design as a sporty watch.

Tried on the Oris, the quick set hour hand is very cool, but the watch just didn't speak to me.

I foolishly tried on the Omega Speedmaster FOIS…it's perfect...

I love Speedys, including that model, but at $5.3k it seems overpriced for a Speedy with an 1861 movement.

Anything specific, or just an overall impression?

I ask, because you told me you didn't like the Tudor Heritage chrono, then when I tried it on, I didn't really like it either…

A little bit of both. It's really big and awkward looking, and that's a guy that wears G-Shocks all the time.

The dial is pretty, but the printed numbers don't really work for it.

The date and day/night indicator on either side of the second time zone makes it seem cramped. There's just too much shit on that quadrant of the dial.

The way you use the quickset hour is really cool, but it feels janky. The action of the bezel is squishy and the hour hand changing time wiggles, shakes and then groans over the the next hour maker.

The metal sword hands really make the watch pop. Between that and the size and the sapphire crystal, I feel like it's worth the price. I used to have a Speedy sapphire sandwich, the plastic hands really took away from the watch.

That's fair–love the hands and don't "get" the enthusiasm for hesalite in a modern luxury or tool watch. I have an old Omega and there's only so much you can buff out, and there are some places where patina is undesirable (such as the crystal or an instrumented bezel). It's smart of them to cater to the "vintage, but modern crystal please" crowd.

Plus (heh heh heh) you can get it for far less than list with a 4 year warranty.

I'm a huge fan of vintage designs with modern technology. Part of the reason why my next watch will be a MK11 repro with a sapphire crystal and Seiko 6r15 movement. Even has 100m water resistance.

I've heard enough mixed reviews of Jomashop I stay clear. Especially when you can get the Omega warranty for roughly the same price from a couple places. There's an independent dealer on WUS that's selling a NIB FOIS for roughly that price.

I've used the warranty from Omega for my Seamaster Professional and had a very good experience.

I'm pretty sure there were a couple people in the 60's that would've killed for a scratch resistant crystal…
