good choice Bertoni…  no treating yet, just keeping it slow and easy and letting the leather get tears and wears....

Is it not covered in indigo stains from the 634S? Was thinking of treating it to protect it from the stains. Any idea how to remove them and clean the belt once they're there? Looking forward to getting it over here anyway. I see you've been bitten by the IH bug Rocket. Me too…want a shirt next...where will it all end  🙂

I don't mind stains, there are mostly right now on the inside anyway and for me this only adds to the character and is part of the fun…

I have ordered a tan calf credit card holder that will be cool to watch after some weeks in my back pocket, guess this will turn out pretty blue pretty fast...

For the cleaning, Beatle might be the better one to ask, usual leather cleaning should be fine.

            and yes  😉

The IHB-02 I recently picked up (second hand) has developed some fraying along the edge of the belt on both the upper and lower sides, and this leads to a fair amount of (brown) coloring coming off on my pants. Not such a big deal on the jeans, but quite annoying on khakis.

Figuring I gotta take it to a proper leatherworker, but not too many of those around these days, we have a few shoe repair places here but that's about it.

Any tips on potential self-doable remedies, that don't involve advanced leatherworking skills? I'm sure it requires some wax, but I'd guess some buffing and potentially power tools are involved and I'm thinking it'll need attention of an expert.

Anyone else experienced this with their IH belt?

you mean the edges are bleeding color? Might try this.

Take the belt and some tapwater in a cup and thickish cotton cloth. (I used a piece cut from old jeans)

modestly moist the edge with water with your fingertip, take the piece of cloth and rub the edge with it with rapid back and forth movements. Soon you'll see it to burnish. You're done.

bleeding, yes, because the edges are fraying. sorry for the crappy cell phone pic but does the job.

:o What did you or the person you bought this from do to the belt?  That's some serious fray there.  Bull-riding?  Looks like it was strapped onto something loosely and hence the fray on both sides?  Is the belt buckle on properly?

It seems to be on mine as well, I thought it was just natural wear and tear.

I just got it. I don't think it was misused or heavily used prior to me. The rest of the belt is in fine shape and shows little wear. The buckle is on properly.

I'm gonna drop it off at a cobbler tonight.

I agree your belt is normal, Seul, but my belt is definitely not normal, I apologize for the poor quality photo, but the part of mine that's fraying doesn't look like yours does. The edge of your belt looks just like my heavy Tanner belt.  The part that's fraying is only on the end with the holes.

Treat the edges as I said…. They'll be like new if done right. And you won't loose anything trying it.

Looks like the belt has rubbed something, or something has rubbed the bewlt.

nah, just got it second hand. come to think of it, I'm not sure I could do this to a belt if I tried, at least while wearing the belt… it'd probably take lots of flexibility

funny, it shows almost no wear elsewhere, wonder if it's a bit of a flaw

                                      I don't think it's a tough fix though

I followed the advice on here to put a coating of Obenauf's Leather Oil on the IHB-02 in Natural and I have to say it has worked really well.  The belt is about a week old but the oil has already darkened it a bit nicely.  Will try to take some pics in daylight.

Also a fun little road trip to Cabela's out in Hamburg, Pennsylvania to buy the Obenauf's… much more fun than buying it online because of seeing all the guns (and the bizarrely creepy stuffed animals) all over the store!
