Random Rants

Another day, another coding test.
I've been put forward for a contract role with a major consultancy company, who want to place a developer into a bank. Naturally, despite both sides of the client relationship being profitable, the rate on offer is 20% to 30% down on what it should be.
The consultancy is complaining that they can't find anyone to fill the role (funny that), and that they interviewed and rejected me last year, so they're being a bit shirty.
I'm toying with sending them an email pointing out the various flaws in the coding test from a software engineering perspective (incomplete specification, unrealistic time estimate, and that it contains the cardinal sin of premature optimisation), just to be a bit of a smart alec.
It's probably a stupid thing to do, but might be fun.
Incidentally, I wish that employers would realise that the recruitment process is two way. Putting off candidates before you've interviewed them isn't going to help you find good staff.
I say get the results first, and THEN school them on the short comings you see…
If you get the job, it would help the company in the future with their recruitment process... If you don't get the job, it will help you in the future when you apply again, lol

Only in England does the temp drop to -5C while the flowers and trees are starting to bloom…
No notable snow all winter so far in Suffolk, but now in the last stretch, here comes the "Snowpocalypse"… Enough snow that the Greater Anglia Train line has had to cancel a couple of their routes for the time being.

NEWSFLASH!!! It's winter and there is some winter weather about…..
ffs.

We got over a foot of snow a few days ago. That's a snowpocalypse.

It's 80F and sunny(ish) today.

Also, on the ongoing job hunt front, I had an interview for a tech lead role today.
The guy I spoke with (technical PM) turned me down because I didn't know a couple of libraries (RxJava and Dagger), which are the new hotness in Android. His argument was that as a lead, I had to know more than my underlings.
It's not that hard for an engineer to learn a new API, and this was a permanent position…

Frustrating for you @Graeme ::)

Thanks @den1mhead. It's frustrating.
I'll sort a new job out eventually.
