Same for me.  Definitely no expert so I just put my iPhone on a 10 second timer, lean it against something, and take a few steps back.

Used to take mirror selfies, then I read of some dude on here or selvedge style forum, who used his TIMER function on his cell phone. So I tried it out by propping/leaning my cell against two objects (shed door frame and tool box on a shelf) bout chest height and used the 10 sec delay and 3 shot burst. Turned out way better than I thought it would–outdoor indirect sun light helps and screw the flash.  Trial and error gets you dialed in on angles, poses, and distances. Takes many, delete most, only share the flattering ones!

Def no camera pro, but way better than indoor mirror pics that I used to post, and gives a whole new world of perspective on how you look with different combos, and feel it propelled my style game up a few notches.  Mirrors lie.  Yes, you feel like a douche but its worth it for the growth potential, and its fun to share your new/old IH goodies with the world.

Love to read what @rocket @Haddtoo 555 @Appfaff @den1mhead, @Cole  @BloodnThunder @neph93 @twin @summ3rhays  @madmonday @Max Power @Signal11 @mikebarhoot @motojobobo @Jordan23 @Matty123 @spitfiredealer and all the rest who I'm forgetting do to get their shots, so we can keep this bad ass thing that we all love growing strong. Really pumped on the current state of wdywt thread but always room for growth and new blood!!!

I use the 10 second timer to take the Iron Heart selfie pics. Set the camera on any thing that is flat so pic is level.

@Dishelveled  Gilfriend+iPhone+many shots. Great idea to ask this question! I never realized that quite a few members use a bluetooth shutter or timer… I never even heard of a remote shutter for a phone camera until now ::)

I also have a Canon D40 but I haven't used it lately because phone camera's are quite good these days. I think I will try next time for comparison...

I do exactly the same as @BloodnThunder described above for most of mine. A few I'll take off the family  camera (Canon) and those are hand-held ones.

The remote firing option on phones sounds good to allow use of the better front-facing camera, but there is no way of seeing what is framed for the shot…(or am I wrong about this?).

                  The journey is the objective.

Personal I just use my Iphone connected to a bluetooth shutter remote (Amazon). Put the phone somewhere and shoot some pics. Sunlight is your friend, as well as shooting a few more pics, since you can always delete em. Try and error and don’t overthink the lot… it’s about having fun and not work imo...

That is exactly how I do it  write down to the philosophy which is even more important IMO

Awesome thanks for all the responses!  Guess, I need to be more adventurous propping the phone when out and about. And def agree about the front camera lense sucking vs the big boy on back.

Great call on the remote shutter. I'll check the 'zon when back home. (Yes, I did just make that up and agree its horrible, haha)

There is, front cam is for selfies and stuff like face time, back cam for taking pictures. Depending how old your phone is, you might see a big difference in the quality of the taken pictures.

Believe it or not I actually taught myself to use a DSLR about 8 years ago and have a Canon and a Panasonic Micro Four Thirds system camera with quite the array of lenses and did quite a bit of nature photography and that kind of thing. I've also barely used them for the last four years because who can be arsed lugging all that about when you've got a mobile.

On the other hand, I'm heartily sick of how shite iPhone pics really are, so I've invested in what is supposed to be a very tasty point and click, the Panasonic/Lumix DMC-TZ100. I can control it from my phone and it Wifi's my shots to it. Anyone know anything more about it?
