      @Chris:

Anonimos watches are quirky, but super cool. I've always been intrigued by the crown placement on the Militare models.

They make several great looking bronze cased watches, too.

I know I was missing something by the first glimpse…

They have another version of the Militare where the crown is at 12 o'clock.

The brand "died" a few years ago and was acquired by a Swiss-based conglomerate. The watches produced in the last few years are "made in Switzerland" and are widely poo-poo'ed by the old enthusiasts.

I was unaware of the recent change.  That explains why they aren't as offbeat as I remember.  Too bad; I always liked the uniqueness of the brand, even though I didn't always like the individual models.

Maybe I'll start trawling the 'bay to see if I can find something fun…

Well, I found a nice Grand Seiko SBGH035 on a French-language forum but the dealer and I couldn't agree on payment modalities. I wanted PayPal, he wanted wire, I offered 50/50, he said no. There will be other watches I guess, but the 035 is … special...

Not sure if direct debit authorization is possible over the pond. But that's always something I offer people who feel uncomfy with a PP payment. Since in case of, I can credit back the amount to my account, within 6 weeks…

But as you said, there will always be a other opportunity...

Hodinkee have a piece on the Pinion Atom.

It's a good looking watch, and I prefer it to the Axis. It also costs $900, so could be posted to the other thread.

The article is positive, with a certain amount of humour. The commentariat less so.

The one thing that the Basic Hodinkee Watch-Troll never even takes into consideration is that watches like e.g. the Pinion carry a unique Design where e.g. Stowa basicly does a Fliegeruhr, a Marine and some sort of Nomos meets Max Bill Design which means the whole Design Process is cut out of the Overall pricing which in turn results in much lower Prices.

I'm pretty certain that every article on Hodinkee has the following responses:

                                      • It's too big. Should be no more than 38 mm.

                                      • It's too expensive. Should be 50% of what they're asking.

@Steffen I suspect that Stowa have a larger production than Pinion, which gives them better scales of economy. Seiko will be several order of magnitudes bigger.

The other thing is that you can't compare the finish of watches so easily from photos. A Tudor Black Bay isn't as well constructed as a Rolex Submariner or Sea Dweller, and you can see where corners have been cut. But you probably wouldn't notice the difference without holding both.

The Pinions that I've seen look pretty solid. That's going to cost money.

@neph93 I thought that the Norwegian government have employees to deal with those sorts of problems. 😃

The excuse seems to be that it's a way of combating the grey market. Or maybe Patek are being greedy.

Ironically, Thierry Stern, Patek's CEO, has criticised brands for raising prices above inflation…

At least the first item has changed a bit.  Remember when the standard response was, "it's too small.  Anything under 45mm is for ladies or children."?
