funny thing is - if someone spent a few hundred bucks on a good knife, they're unlikely to use it for crime, but certain types carrying about an easy to buy $10 stanley usually only have one intention . . .

I designed this one awhile ago. I was in a particularly bad place in my life, and designed a knife to reflect that feeling. Forged my Joe Brum

I've used it to split a let of lamb in two…single stroke and it went through both flesh and bone fairly effortlessly

CnC Bladewerkz Dragon Karambit, modified by myself. I took the standard Dragon Karambit design, made the blade oversized, made the rippers on the spine oversized (and added more rippers), added red dymondwood scales, and James Coogler (the knifemaker behind CnC Bladewerkz) created it for me

I've adapted the sheath so I can carry the knife by my appendix, tip up, for quick deployment from under a shirt and can be driven up towards the liver/lungs/heart in a fraction of a second. Blade shape is an American Tanto with a zero ground front edge for maximum penetration through ribs

The Nkonka kind of goes with the IH motorcycle specialties theme

Chris Reeve was a competitive motorcycle racer back in the day. This knife was envisioned as something you would take with you on the road: simple, versatile design, with some of the tools you would need if a tune up was necessary

Before anyone asks, the Nkonka in 3v is no longer available. It was a limited edition of 200, never to be made again. The Nkonka in the standard A2 steel can still be found at a premium on eBay, since the entire one piece line was discontinued last year.

I can see it now, DougNg wandering some dark street when he's approached by some hoodlums… "Hey nice jeans, are those William Rast?"

In the blink of an eye the blade penetrates below the xiphoid, traverses the left lobe liver and diaphragm to reach the base of heart, terminating in the left ventricle.

                              (kidding, kidding, of course)

Most of the time, all I carry is a small, non locking knife with two blades: one for food (cutting an apple, sandwiches, steak) and the other for all other non food work (opening boxes, removing staples)

For home defense I'll be buying a Sig Sauer P226 with .357 Sig rounds and probably a shotgun when funds are available.

As much as it is so much less sexy than a nice handgun, a shotgun really is the best home defense weapon for most. Just the sound of the pump action is gonna be enough to scare off most bad guys, you don't have to be super accurate, and it's gonna stop anything.

if you get a shotgun for home protection, choose one with barrell lenght max. 20".
Easier to point in corridors and other cramped places. I have a old Mossberg 500 with 20" barrell and that's easy to handle. Also in the bushes when I go hunting, which is very seldom these days.
