Amanzi Wai Lodge - Yacata, Fiji
-
We transfer to Yacata the day after tomorrow. Just been sorting my tackle out for the bzillionth time.
My goals.
- Catch a decent fish on this amazing popper I was given for my Kanreki by a fishing buddy. Then immediately retire the lure….
- Catch a Giant Trevally on a fly, this one will be my first choice…
- Catch a decent sized Doggie (Dog Tooth Tuna)….
-
Looks like if you can get access to the mountain top on the island, AND access to the closest island that may have internets, it'll be possible to build a wireless link between them. Need to be on the very top of the mountain on Yacata to get it going.
Build a small hut w/ solar panels & a battery backup to power it if you can get to it and no local power…If there's internet in Vidawa, you're on your own
-
Enjoy it guys, much deserved

Two years ago Giles meets great South African (Chad) when fishing in Oman. Form firm friendship.
Chad tells Giles he is building an eco fishing lodge on a remote island in Fiji (it's called Yacata - Google it).
Giles says, oh great I'll come and spend my 60th there.
Chad says, won't be finished. Then in off-hand way says "we're looking for investors"
Giles spends days working out how to broach subject of investing in a(nother) mad adventure with Paula. Plucks up courage and blurts it out.
Paula says "fuck yeah".
Giles picks himself up off the floor.
We invest.
We are in Fiji.
Lodge not built.
Probably end up sleeping on beach.
Neither of us has ever been so excited about something in our lives…..See more here:

Gutsy and awesome

next investment:
you should consider launching a satellite. pretty hard to get to as well (fits in with the padmore style of investments) then you can have your own internet

I had perhaps my most satisfying fish ever the other evening. I wandered down the beach from the camp (on my own) to have a few casts, 1st cst I had a big hit which I did not connect with, 3rd cast I had a massive hit and line screamed off my reel, I kept on tightening drag until I managed to slow the fish down (I was seriously scared of been spooled), The only way I could gain line was to walk back up the beach and then walk very fast back again, whilst reeling in. Long story short, 10 minutes later and 200yards down the beach from where I hooked the fish, I landed a 20kg (approx) Giant Trevally. Amazing fish. amazing fight, fecked Giles…..
