So far Giles I gotta say I am loving it. This version seems a million miles away from the S version I tried on in Gosport.

The fit on these is perfect, perfect. It's a real relief not having to try and stretch the thighs out for that perfect fit. Thanks so much can't get fit pics because I don't have anyone to take them. But I will eventually.

Also, the best thing about these is that intersection of seams between the back pockets is in a comfortable zone now and my butt crack  has a good 2 -3 inches of coverage when I sit down.

Definitely working with a slimmer fit but let's see how these break in. Size up and the waist would be too large, which admittedly isn't a bad thing.

I didn't follow the guide and only did a 30 minute cold soak since my daughters needed to take their bath. The UPS delivery didn't happen until late. I probably should have waited till today, but I wanted to get to wear them the whole weekend. I did a 50 minute cold wash in the washer with no spin afterwards while they were still wet. I tried them on and it seems like the length shrunk, but not so much in the waist.

Do I need to do a longer soak for the constructional stitching?

Just for safety’s sake really. Busted crotch stitching two weeks down the line would be pretty tedious.

Out of curiosity, how can one be sure that the stitching has been properly set from soaking?

Hopefully I can get a bit more shrink out of the knee and leg opening. It only gave me ~.3” after a 40 minute hot soak and 3 hour cold soak while I was at work.

If the denim shrinks it'll set the stitching…

If the stitching tells you it's settled, go see a shrink.

Agitation is your best bet for getting all the shrinkage out, so give them a gentle wash. Although a third of an inch from narrow horizontal measurements sounds about right tbh
