Admittedly, I carry my G19 pretty often too. I carry in all sorts of environments, so it's nice that I can detail strip and clean with nominal tools. The P229 would either require a lot more tools or more realistically (because I'm paranoid about life saving equipment, I get a new fire extinguisher every year), a trip to a smith.

Is that a one off @Giles? I have a similar tote from The Flat Head but it's much slimmer and more purselike. Darci likes it a bit.

I had a couple made,  we did not go to production.  Paula and Mrs H have one each….

I have two totes, one by Kletterwerks and another by Acronym.  Both are solid, well-made practical bits of kit that have carried a shit load and taken a lot of abuse. They were also very useful work bags when I had a prolapsed disc and couldn't carry a backpack.

Primarily, I use a them for work as an addition to a backpack/messenger when I have to carry multiple files.  In the alternative, they are useful as a bag for the kids toys if we are going away.

I don't buy any carry items for fashionable purposes these days, only things that I can use practically.  Totes definitely have their place in a carry arsenal and can be very useful bits of kit.

If folks around here were interested in absolute practicality, we'd be using bags with 500D cordura for size and weight to strength considerations. Additionally, cotton weighs a frickin ton when it's wet, cordura dries fast.

Ounces equals pounds. Pounds equals pain. If I'm taking a trip where I know I need to be on the move, I'm taking the lightweight equivalent of everything I have, including what I'm putting it in.

The GR1 is 1000D, overkill if you're not dragging it over coarse materials. I've been using 500D for the last few years, it's adequately strong and durable but the weight savings is considerable.

Actually, I've left it on the ground at outdoor rifle ranges which are covered in brass, and I don't even have abrasion marks on it.

Btw, I've seen this and a couple other images of dogs slung up like this before. The only info I can get on it is that this is how the IDF parachutes in their K9 units. Couldn't verify that info, but thought it was interesting if true.

I agree with @DougNg about bag weight, which makes it a not so unpopular opinion.

I went away for a week and a half earlier this year, and my bag weighed around 12 kg. Two of those were from the backpack itself, a Defy Verbockel.

I wanted a smaller bag, and I've just picked up a Thisispaper backpack, but probably should have got a Topo Designs Stack Pack, which I'm guessing would be half a kilo lighter.

Given I was travelling by public transport and on foot, getting the load down to (say) seven or eight kilos would make it much easier.

If you really want to get your travel gear down, go to a camping store. They have a lot of innovative stuff to get weight down.

You're not serious about weight savings until you start drilling holes in toothbrushes 😉
