Tote bags for men
[/quote]I use a canvas totebag frequently when i'm out and about with my son. I keep stuff like spare clothes, snacks, sunscreen, etc., in there if we're just ducking out to a mall or playground, or use it for the library when i'm checking out books and dvd's. If we're at the zoo then i'll bring a backpack. Agree with Untucked, if it's a fashion accessory then no way but for practical use yes.

Honest question- isn't it more of a hassle to carry all that in a tote bag, instead of a backpack or messenger bag? I like to have my hands free, especially when I'm out somewhere with the kids.

With short trips it's not a hassle as I just carry it over my shoulder. Longer trips, such as the zoo, I use a backpack

I'd rather use one of these-

@Chris I dont know the manufacturer or your bag but it's a beauty. I love those Cobra buckles and the leather looks like it is breaking in really nicely.
I find myself reaching for my Tripper a lot because it holds a TON of stuff. It's a great carryon too because it will easily hold all my in-flight gear plus 2 days of clothes. Not having a shoulder strap can be a detractor but the organization and usefulness of the bag make up for it IMO.

@Anesthetist, thanks for the compliment; I made it myself. So the materials on the bag are excellent, the workmanship, significantly less so. There are several minor things I'll change on the next version, but I'm generally happy with it. And yeah, Cobra are stupidly overqualified for a messenger bag, but they are so nice.

Tote bags make you look like Mrs Howell from Gilligan's Island.
i've never considered tote bags to be stylish by any means but they serve their purpose, especially if you have children.

I have children…..and a backpack

i'd do tote bags, sling/ messenger bags, backpacks. pretty much everything… it's a bag, you put stuff in it. don't see why it's stylish or an accessory..

If I'm using it/carrying it, it has to be at least somewhat stylish… I put too much thought in to coordinating outfits to throw it all off balance with poorly selected accessories, lol
-
nah i'd get that point. i'm always thinking the night before on what i'm going to wear the next. which bag to match the outfit. but the utilitarian point of the bag i was on about, is that it's meant to hold your stuff in it..

that's why I use totes, for their utility. I can hold a decent amount of stuff in one but the backpack comes out if I know i'm going to be out and about for several hours and in a situation where I might have to carry my son. I don't really care if I look silly carrying a tote either.

Loving how unpopular this opinion is
Totes look like something an old lady would pick up her groceries in.
