My brother lost his Border Collie Jake at the start of the month.
He'd been a bit ill, so he took him to the vets. As they were walking to the practice, Jake collapsed, and passed away soon afterwards. He was an old dog, somewhere between thirteen and fifteen.
Here's a photo I took of him in November last year.
I wasn't sure if he was going to get another anytime soon, then he found a litter of blue merle Border Collies, and he decided that this one will be his new dog.

Had to take one of my parents dogs, Limo, to be put down today. Of the three dogs that my parents own she was my Dads favourite. A jolly good friend indeed.

To those of you Stateside:
I signed up for www.ccwsafe.com because I conceal carry a pistol. Its an insurance program where if you defend yourself they will represent you in a criminal and civil lawsuit. Found out something interesting: they will also give you legal representation if your dog defends you in a self defense situation (as well as any defensive weapon of opportunity, including bare hands).
This is huge for my wife and I. While we live in a nice neighborhood, we occassionally get some shithead that capitalizes on the fact that we don't have much of a police presence. We walk our dogs every night after dark, and it does weigh on our minds if someone comes after us, our Rottweilers will likely come to our defense (they have twice, though no blood was shed). We don't want to risk our dogs being put down because they were doing the right thing.
Just a PSA in case someone else here thinks about that.

You just like them because hippos are ill-tempered, aggressive monsters that kill more people in Africa than any other wild animal.
And because they're vegetarians. I know how much you love vegetarians.

So interesting fact, while hippos in the wild are aggressive, because Fiona was born in captivity and had to have 24hr a day monitoring due to being born 6 weeks premature, she imprinted on humans. She gravitates towards them at the zoo when the crowds line up to get a glimpse of her.
