@Smersh Did you get them? Sorry just interested to know how you found the sizing, I'm 9.5 in a UK Trickers but usually get an E fitting as that is mostly what they do. Been saving up!  😉

Uh, I kinda forgot about this - or rather, I had some minor car/wall meeting which distracted me a bit from this and made me put all expenses on hold while I am waiting for the estimate from the workshop. 😕

Giles, thank you for the heel picture. I was measuring it wrong, then, and indeed, now that measurement does not seem so scary any more.

We lived in Baltimore for a bit, sometime in the 70's, got my love of the American lifestyle then which has never left me, had a few great College sweats wish I still had, and a Baltimore Colts sweat I wore to death. Will post some images of the boots life out West (Cornwall) when I get them Monday…

Off topic, but I've wanted to visit Baltimore ever since watching The Wire (five times). Also where in Cornwall? I've spent time in Bodmin…

About 15 minutes East of Bodmin on the Moor, wet and wild, been here 10 years, bit of a change from Bethnal Green I can tell you.

Beautiful country though. Rain comes down there like no other place I've been. And I live on the coast in northern Norway now.

I can recommend Wesco's bee oil and wax combo for yer boots. Sounds like you'll need it [emoji28]

A cursory google search makes it seem a lot more appealing than Bethnal Green

The kebabs are better in Bethnal Green than in Bodmin. And Bethnal Green isn't Mile End. Not much in the way of a defence I admit…

How is the heel height (1 3/4") measured? That sounds like a lot, especially when I measure the heels of my own boots to compare.

It sounds like a lot and probably is compared to many boots, but it doesn't look that way on foot. The boot (and the last it is built on) is designed holistically so the way it's all put together means it doesn't feel like you're walking "on heels" at all.

Exactly right. They feel completely natural and you'd run into trouble messing about with a much lower heel. Wesco is good at what they do.

to me Baltimore is a great city. Although it hd it's share of "urban renewal" many parts of the city survived. Being from the North I think Baltimore is the first Southern city you hit on the east coast. There's no denying you have to be careful where you go and what you do but this is true for all American cities.

Thanks for some beautiful pictures and inspiration @steelworker  Until now I've only ever visited NYC but I'm increasingly fascinated by the length and breadth of the USA and the diverse cultures there. I need to do a grand tour one day.

Currently living in Baltimore, have been for the past 10 years.

I think it's a place that will be labeled "up and coming" in perpetuity.  Parking in most places people want to live is a mess, and the "nice" versus "bad" neighborhoods follow no discernible pattern.  I have a daughter now, and we're looking to get out.  It has its high points for sure, but I'm not exactly in love with the place, and I started a business here.  Suffice to say that it's grown off of me instead of the other way around.

Also the city is corrupt as hell.  We almost re-elected a mayor who plead guilty to abusing her position for her own financial gain (and truth be told might have been a better mayor than the one we got).  The Balimore taxpayers still pay her pension, which she kept as part of the deal.  Also, although it might seem odd, Maryland is the richest state in the nation, and yet the public school system in its largest city is a complete disaster, and the reason that most smart people move out once they have kids.

Also, the Enoch Pratt Library looks like this as far as I know:

It's interesting to note that everywhere north of Maryland considers Maryland to be "in the south," and everywhere south of Maryland considers Maryland to be "in the north."
