A bootmaker I know says that insoles actually shorten the lifespan of boots- the synthetic materials don't breathe as well, so the sweat stays in the leather longer.  From a practical standpoint, I don't know if it makes a whole lot of difference, though.

The ones that used to come with the boots were garbage, hence my homemade ones My new ones came with Burlap insoles. They look great with the black boots.

Insoles are back in. Worked a treat! Discomfort gone and the fit is gooood. Leather is softening nicely too.

I have basically the same make-up for my Boss boots and they're incredibly tough. They'll be your best friend in all weather. Enjoy!

I think that is the way to go with Wescos. They will never look sleek, so might as well make them tough as nails!

Cool, thanks. Do you use anything on the visible edge of the midsoles? I notice the midsoles on my Viberg Smokejumpers suck up a lot of moisture in the wet/snowy season, and when they dry a residue (which I believe to be road salt) remains.

Coming along nicely. The midsole is looking great with some wear. You wouldn't know they used to be black.
