Just signed up for driving school and I am already annoyed because I have to wear shitty but safe bike-gear, hopefully some of my riding friends can borrow me some stuff.

Wearing a borrowed set of garish textiles isn't the end of the world. No one will recognise you with a full-face helmet on. 😉

If you're looking at getting a bike soon, then maybe it's worth about investing in some gear. Rev'it does the Urban range, Rokker do high-end biker denim, and some of the Icon 1000 collection is Mad Max influenced. Knox do an armour and jacket layering system as their Studio Collection, which looks a good idea.

Urban Rider and The Café Racer both stock less technical looking gear. But you might want to cross-check prices against somewhere like FC Moto or Louis to see whether it's cheaper in Germany.

In light of Piers's lovely bike, there's a piece over at Cycleworld about it's bigger brother, the XSR900, that argues the XSR700 makes more sense.

The basic gist is that the XSR900 is too powerful for a naked bike, whereas the XSR700 is lighter and more flickable. That's not to say the bigger bike is bad, the accompanying review is positive.

The journalist, Sean MacDonald, was dropped from Lanesplitter a few weeks back, and has now tipped up at Cycleworld. I enjoy his articles, and he's worth following.

@JCMx800 if you need a tasteful jacket for your lessons, might I suggest the Dainese Gong Yun! :o

Actually, Dainese are doing a few interesting designs. The York is rather different to most leathers. I don't know how the buttons would hold up in an off, but I suspect it'll look great with a lot of abuse.

Excuse the question, but is no one into choppers? Hardtail, Sportster tank, springer fender, K&Q seat, sissy bar. Choppers.

                Yes. Isn't that obvious?

Yeah, but I don't like springers with fenders and rather walk than be seen on a bike with a sissy bar or king and queen seat. There's more stuff that's been popularized the last few years but I dislike lots of bikes so I digress.

The Thruxton lends itself to being customised. This one has been tweaked with some of the parts from Triumph's catalogue, though the subframe under the seat has been modified.

The one in my last post was customised by K-Speed in Bangkok. It's not my bike.

Mine's the one with the sold sign on it. It's still stock at present. I'm planning some mods, and will do some of the work myself. However, having seen the instructions for fitting the fairing, I might leave that to the dealer, as it looks pretty involved. 🙂

                                          Nice filter there @Jordonf9.

I got the Thruxton home yesterday, with a rather slow and wobbly ride. I've not been on a bike in 18 months, not ridden in Australia before, and all the controls were in the wrong place! The older BMWs had indicator switches on each bar, similar to a Harley, but there's a separate cancel button, so I'm not used to the more conventional switch with a cancel button.

                                          I need more practice!
