      @Graeme:

      I saw the new Rolex Air-King in one of the local dealers. I think that it's a cooler watch than the new Daytona that Hodinkee were getting excited about the other day. 😛

      One thing that did strike me is that it's basically a Milgauss, but here in Oz it retails for around $2000 less. So why exactly would I want to buy the more expensive watch? I like the thunderbolt hand and green crystal, but they're not worth that much.

      The two things that I'd wished Rolex had done differently would have been to lume the 3, 6, 9 numerals, and add the Paraflex shock absorber system. The new Explorer has both of these, but not the antimagnetic case design.

      The watch has grown to 40 mm, much to @Anesthetist's disapproval, but I thought that it sat nicely on my wrist.

      For me I prefer the Explorer dial. This one has a bit to much going on. However this is the higher spec watch as it is anti-mag. Both are great watches and will serve very well for a life time of wear.

        With Rolex Sports models they are all good choices it's just down to personal taste.

          At least they picked a better proportioned handset. It irked the heck out of me when they upsized the Explorer but left the 36mm hands. A 40mm watch looks good on my wrist but the 34mm watch is one of my all time favorites. It felt like the underdog of the sport line, but had a great heritage. I would buy the 40 Airking but want either the smaller Blackbay or IWX first.

            Given that the IWC Pilot 36mm is $4,000, the baby Black Bay is $2,500, and the Air-King is $6,200, you could just about get the IWC and Tudor for the price of the Rolex. 🙂

            I like the Air-King because it's got colour on the dial, and it's not quite as straight-laced as a lot of other Rolexes.

            That said, I was chatting to the guy in an Omega boutique today, and he said that an updated Rail Master with the antimagnetic movement is coming next year. It could be a really interesting piece.

              A month or so ago I got to finally pick up my GMT.  Totally loving the splash of colour:

                    very nice addition to your collection @Qinhan .  I also added a vintage GMT fairly recently, a 1675, think they are great pieces.

                          Speaking of over-priced GMT's, this one went for 3.5 mill. recently:

                          Not exactly something you'd want to wear out but still gorgeous.

                                LOL.  I think Tempvs probably beat me to that one.  I got a gilt/chapter ring/exclamation dial, waited a while to track the right one down.  Here it is alongside its modern counterpart:

                                  Obviously that proves you shouldn't listen to me when choosing watches that might be future collectibles. 😉

                                      Hi @Tempvs I wasn't sure if you were asking about my GMT or another one, but in case mine then thank you and it's 1960 or 1961 if I recall correctly, the second of the Gilt dial 1675s

                                            Those old GMTs are great and one of the only Rolex's that is under valued in my humble view. Only thing is be careful with the bezel as it's easy to mark but impossible to replace with one that has such lovely historical wear and ageing.
                                            I'm wearing this today.
