ok phase two of the triumph remodelling ,a new alloy mudguard ( rear) and new mini indicators just got to wait for the warm weather to respray the tank ,as the previous owner did a really poor job of it before

MCN have published first ride impressions of the new Triumph Bonneville and Thruxton.

The Thruxton is capable of being ridden in a spirited fashion… 😉

Weight is 203 kg (dry), about 450 lbs. The Thruxton produces 96 bhp, and 83 ft/lbs of torque. So it'll go a bit better than the old model did. But it's down a bit on power compared to the BMW R nineT, which strikes me as a natural competitor.

Then again, there is the race kit…

The thing that really bothers me is the fuel capacity, at 14.5 litres. That seems a touch small, 18 or 19 would have been better.

Speaking of retro bikes, there are rumours that Honda might be finally getting around to building a production version of the CB1100R concept from 2007. 😘

DH and I are thinking of transitioning from Sports bike to maybe a bobber type bike.. To be more honest I've lost my mojo and I am not enjoying it so much anymore, OK to be even more honest I got scared last time we went out…also the sports bike position for pillion is punishing for long rides... Any advice guys?

                                      ^ A typical bobber is a single-seater … ?

I would buy a Triumph Bonneville - sexy, british, classic style and 2 seat (standart type)

I took a look at the Yamaha XSR900 today.

It's a nice looking machine. I like the fact that it's retro without being a pastiche, something I feel that the Bonneville tries too hard at. The finish looks good, though there are a few bits of plastic here and there.

@Giles should try to convince Yamaha to donate one for another IH Yard Built project. I reckon it'd be possible to do a really cool scrambler…

I also dropped by the local Ducati dealer. I wanted to take a peek at the Hypermotard, which has just arrived in. It's got a tall seat, which is great for a gangly mutant like myself, and the SP model is even taller.

@Black Orchid the Bonneville looks a good machine, though DH might prefer the Thruxton R if he's a reformed sportsbike rider. I've got a deposit down on one, but I'm not 100% decided yet. There is a Bobber version coming soon.

The Ducati XDiavel looks interesting, and I was hoping to see that at the dealership today, but it's been delayed. I'm not sure how comfortable the pillion perch is.

Harley are now producing the S Series, which is their go faster range. The Low Rider S, and it had a good review at Lanesplitter. There's also the Fat Boy S and Soft Tail Slim S.

Thanks for all that info @Graeme loads of food for thought… Going to do our research. I fell in love with the Ducati Diavel Stealth when it first made its appearance at the bike show NEC Birmingham.. However pillion could again be tricky..
